dmswartzfager
Well, Blitz's eyelid is now looking as bad as it ever did. It seems like every time the ulcerations heal, a new one pops up. The swelling is back, albeit more to the outside of his eye. There's also been more discharge than normal the past two days, and tonight, it seems like his eye is itchy. I know Dr. Weigt will want to go in surgically and poke around in there and do an honest-to-goodness biopsy and/or culture. Thankfully, we do have an appointment already for tomorrow (Thursday) at 4:30 - I will probably call tomorrow morning and see if she wants to see him earlier in the day. Poor dude. He can't catch a break. dmswartzfager
Well, no surgery yet. She still feels it is an autoimmune issue, and despite Blitz's tendency to get UTI's and his excessive and inappropriate urination while on prednisone, we pretty much have to go the oral steroid route since even more of his eyelid is inflamed. So we're to go back to the prednisolone eyedrops, except now every 3 hours or so instead of every 8 hours, and 20 mg of prednisone twice daily for seven days, then tapering off from there. We figure we'll take him outside every time we do his eyedrops, and hopefully he won't wet his bed or urinate in the house. He'll also be on Simplicef for the Staphylococcus infection that's flared up again. Dr. Weigt says we'll know after the weekend if this plan has a chance of working - the idea is to hit this really hard and hopefully be able to taper off the prednisone pretty quickly.
