Guest Spiff
So just as Spiff was being selected as 1st Prince in the Suzy awards, he was giving us a big scare with his LS. Yesterday he just plain could not use his rear legs and we were very concerned that we were going to have to let him go. But the vet gave him a pain shot and a vitamin B shot, and we spoiled him with wieners, pizza and lots of other treats last night... ...and this morning he was LOTS better. He insisted on going for his normal perimeter walk around the garden to check his pee-mail. He only needed a little help from a sling to make sure that he didn't fall down. He got a second round of vitamin B and pain shots today, and we hope that he will continue to improve as he did over the last 24 hours. He even got up on his own a little while ago to go out into the garden. I really hope we've bought some more time with him - he's a total goof and is very stubborn about doing what he wants! He seems to think that he should be able to run just as fast as when he was young and that nothing can come between him and his walks. Please think of him and send white light and prayers! VinnieAndRexsMom
Sending good thoughts for Spiff. You know, with that boy, if he isn't doing things his way, life won't be any fun. Guest Spiff
Thank you everyone!! I think it's working -- Spiff insisted on walking around the ENTIRE block this afternoon. His legs only gave out when he'd reached the threshold of the garden door -- seems like it was just the right amount of exercise to give him confidence that he CAN walk, but brought him to the edge of his stamina... he's sleeping now and will hopefully surprise us again for his evening walk. I'll feel better when he can get up without us "spotting" him... but at the very least he's able to go outside to pee and for short walks once he's up. Guest Spiff
Spiff is now able to get up on his own without "spotting" : and he's going for his short neighborhood walks!! I think he's a little weaker than before this episode, but I can't tell you how relieved I am that he's made a good enough recovery. I just want him to be comfortable and able to enjoy his favorite things: checking pee-mail, drinking water out of the fish pond, and begging for treats at the dinner table...
