Blitz, Sunday Afternoon

Recommended Posts

Blitz is back home. He seems to want to be where Brian is; maybe he *was* looking for Brian yesterday when I visited him by myself.

The tech who brought him to us wasn't able to tell us much more than we already knew, though Blitz supposedly has not had any further bouts of diarrhea, and no vomiting. We're to monitor him, of course, call if we have any questions, and call with an update tomorrow. Hopefully by then they will have heard back from the radiologist so we can figure out the next step in figuring out what is going on with his abdomen.

He is supposed to get fed again at 4 and get some meds. I'm about to start cooking up some chicken and rice, and we were sent home with some high calorie canned food if we need it. Small frequent meals until we know he's feeling better.

Oy. I slept in pretty late this morning, yet I feel like I could take a nap. Still have that school work to do though, and gotta get cooking.

Welcome home sweety. Deann let me know if you need me to come down during the week to check on him.

Karen

Thanks, Karen. So far Brian is taking tomorrow off to keep an eye on him as Blitz's stool is decidely not solid. Then we're going to go day-by-day from there as we don't know what the next step will be.

Glad to hear that he's home -- how is he this morning?

Well, Brian was very concerned that Blitz had not had a BM after that very liquid one early yesterday afternoon, so Brian actually slept in the office by the back door so he could let Blitz out as needed. No BM until about 3 this afternoon, and Brian reports that it was more solid - still loose, but it did have form.

Brian reports that Blitz's appetite has much improved - he's been getting snacks when it looks like he's hungry, and has actually eaten four pounds of chicken breast (pre-cooked weight, with rice) since yesterday afternoon. I'm actually not sure I buy that it's been four pounds, based on the five pounds I'm cooking right now, but, he's eaten quite a bit since yesterday, and he's very interested in the batch that's being cooked now. (He's sleeping in the kitchen right now, lazily opening an eye every now and then - he started out in a sphinx position with ears perked up when Brian started cutting up the chicken.) Brian tells me Blitz was VERY interested in the girls' raw meat this morning, for the first time in a week. Brian had to use the gate to keep Blitz out of the office where the girls are fed. Brian says there was one regurgitation incident today, but he thinks it was just a regurgitation as opposed to vomiting.

Blitz and I went outside for a bit, and he hitched his tuck over my knee as I sat on the porch watching the girls wander around the yard, and I loved on him. Brian says he and Blitz shared a dog bed this morning and Blitz just buried his head in Brian's chest and soaked up the love.

I called Dogs and Cats to give an update, but the doc was unable to get to the phone right then, so I am waiting for her to return my call.

The radiologist and the internist think that his issue is more of a GI problem than vascular, so they are saying that we could go ahead with exploratory surgery without the MRI first. So the doc will be talking to the surgeon (who is out today) and will give us a call back by tomorrow about when we're going to schedule surgery to figure out what this mass is and why he has abnormal thickening of his stomach lining.

Blitz is scheduled for exploratory surgery on Friday. He will be in surgery between 1.5 and 3 hours depending on what they find.
