Small, Painful Red Bump On His Ear...

I was giving a gentle ear rub last week, and felt a small lump on the tip of his ear. I couldn't tell what it was, and assumed it was a tick, so I got out the tweezers. He wouldn't let me fiddle with it, and screamed when I squeezed it. It's not black, it was more red/pink, although NOW it's red.

He still won't let me touch it, so I know it hurts him. Could it just be a pimple? How long does a bump have to be there before y'all decide it's not a pimple or a bite and head off to the vet?

I suppose it hurts because you squeezed it with the tweezers...I personally would wait a few days before heading to a vet.

Maybe it goes away on its own without manipulation...If it gets bigger and more painful I would let a vet have a look on it...

It was painful before I squeezed it, but I'm sure I didn't help it that way! :blush

It doesn't feel like it's gotten any bigger; I just don't want to wait if it could be something bad. On the other hand, he's had two huge pimples on his body this year that each least several weeks, so I'm thinking I should just wait and see if it goes away... Why can't he just acquire the powers of speech and language for times like this? :P

Atlas gets small warty like things on his body once in a while. They usually resolve on their own. :)

If you are worried, then get your butt to the vet.

Maybe a histiocytoma?

Hmm. Maybe, but his fur covers it up. You'd never even see it, unless you were feeling for it. I'll give it some time and call the vet to see if they think he should go in. Thanks, guys!

Any bump around here gets a vet check quickly.

Our girl Prissy had a bump on the tip of her ear. We took her to the vet and they had a name for it but I forgot what it was. We did take pictures of it. The vet said it would get larger before it went away. It did get larger and after about 2 months it was gone.

Could be an ingrown hair, a sebaceous cyst, some other kind of cyst .... If in doubt, vet.

My dogs have had some small, smooth, skin-colored cysts that hung around for awhile and went away by themselves.
