Guest SquanHound
Have you tried canned food for Bodie? Maybe the soaked kibble still scratches his throat going down If you don't want to do canned food maybe toss his food in a food processor with some water or stock and blend until it is smooth. Poor baby!
Greylover97
How soft is kibble when you give it to him? I know with some brands if you let it sit long enough it expands and falls a part really easly. Guest Bodie
How soft is kibble when you give it to him? I know with some brands if you let it sit long enough it expands and falls a part really easly. I let the kibble soak over a half hour this morning and it was really mushy. Tonight I think I'll put it in the food processor and see if I can make kibble soup. The thought is rather unappetizing to me - - but if he likes it, and can eat it without screaming, it will be worth it.
Burpdog
Ask vet about liquidating carafate to give him just before eating. If it works, you will know his throat is scraped. Quote Diane & The Senior Gang Burpdog Biscuits

Greylover97
Fingers crossed the kibble soup works. The carafate sounds like a good idea. Guest greytmonty
We are all pulling for Mr. Bodie. I hope he can eat without pain tonight!
Neighsayer
Can you put astrip of vet wrap around the outside of the shirt (over the pad) to hold the pad in place? My old chow sometimes refuses to eat hard food. I put water and kibble in a bowl in the fridge overnight. Just add some hot water in the morning. Guest Bodie
Tonight I soaked the kibble in hot chicken broth for about 45 minutes while we ate dinner. Then I mixed it with the mixer that I already had out from making mashed potatoes for the human's dinner. I added more hot water and turned it into mush. Honestly, this is tough because once it is mixed up it looks like something a dog loses when he has an upset tummy! Those that were helping with after dinner clean-up were thoroughly grossed out! But Bodie got it down OK with only one small yipe - and I think that might have been more for effect - in fact I think I can say he loved it! Tomorrow I'll try mixing it with the food processor, but couldn't see dirtying that tonight when I already had the mixer out. We see the vet on Friday about stitches, so if he's still having trouble eating by then I will ask the vet about carafate.
Guest SquanHound
I'm glad to hear that dinner was essentially scream-free. Fingers crossed that breakfast will be the same! Edited August 23, 2007 by SquanHound
