Guest MorganKonaAlex
I have seen this type of reaction to opiates, but not gabapentin. Is he on any other medication? If not, I suspect it's a pain reaction and would suggest adding another pain med. Osteo is very painful. Alex was on Gabapentin, Tramadol and Rimadyl combined at some points. ZoomDoggy
Gabapentin is a drug for nerve pain. As I understand it, it's a human drug not really "approved" for veterinary use yet, but has been known to be helpful for dogs. The pacing is probably a pain reaction, so it sounds to me like the gabapentin isn't doing enough. Either the dose needs to be adjusted, or some other meds might need to be employed either "instead of" or "in addition to" the gabapentin. Discuss all that you're observing with your vet in detail. iluvgreys
Have no experience with this medication, only used an NSAID and Tramadol with my greys that had OS. Suggest you join the Circle of Greys group. Dr. Shelley is on that list and will help guide you, as well as tons of others with experience. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CircleofGrey/ Keeping prayers and light flowing to you and your boy. And to all the 4 legged Bridge souls who have touched my heart, thank you. When a greyhound looks into you eyes it seems they touch your very soul. zimsmom
When Lexi had OS she too would pace & pant a lot. Just out of the blue. I think it's a combination of medication & pain. I'm sorry you are going through this. It's hard to watch
