Update On Mandy

Vet says it was most likely a snakebite. (lots of copperheads around here)

They have seen lots of that lately, due to lack of rain/water.

Snakes are out looking for water.

Her leg had swollen up to the elbow. She could walk on it, albeit gingerly, and without screaming. Even went up and down stairs.

Mandy will stay at the clinic for the day, getting IV fluids and antibiotics.

I'll pick her up before they close and bring her home later.

I do appreciate all the thoughts and good wishes from the GTers.

You guys really are the best. Rock on! :headbang

Oh goodness, poor Mandy!

A co-worker reported that both of his little dachshunds were bitten by a copperhead a couple of weeks ago. Both have fully recovered and one of the bites was particularly bad because the pup had pulled her head back causing more venom to enter her poor little face. Apparently it was touch and go with her for a few days. All this sounds like good odds for a complete recovery for Mandy.

I am glad Mandy will be ok. I have had several dogs bitten before too. We live in Texas and have copperheads, and cotten mouths as well. It really can be serious and all dogs react differently.

Wow! Glad you were able to catch it quickly enough. Hoping for a quick and full recovery for Mandy, and hope you get some rain soon.

Sending lots of prayers! Where are you located?

Birmingham AL

I'm leaving in a few minutes to go get her at the vet's.

I am anxious to get her home again, as you can imagine!

My daughter and her BF walked the dogs last night, but didn't take a flashlight with them as I instructed :angryfire

SO everyone----if you even THINK that it MIGHT get dark before you get back home

TAKE THE DANG FLASHLIGHT ALREADY

now if you will excuse me, I have a vet bill to go pay! :P
