Guest doodlebug
Just read this, my heart goes out to you. My first and only heart grey threw a clot in his front leg, he had an angiogram and 2 days later they were able to get his vitals under control and were able to remove it is was just above his ankle. He had atrophy in his front leg his paw was curled under, he wore a baby tennis shoe backward when he was outside. He lived 2 days over a year he passed away on Mothers day when he threw another and the specialist told us if he threw another we would have to put him down as he could not live through another. It was the worst day ever. The specialist said it was a miracle he lived through it the first time. I feel for your loss, my prayers are with you. Guest hazelhedge
So sorry to hear about Derby. My greyhound is at a veterinary specialty clinic right now with the same condition. He has two clots in his right femoral artery. The specialist is running some tests to find out the underlying cause. If he cannot determine the cause, he will put Harry on Plavix to reduce the possibility of further clots. Harry had been limping on his right leg for about 3 weeks but has been on Metacam for pain and it seems to be working. He is 10 and still eating, drinking, peeing, pooping and hounding me for treats! He is not even sensitive about the leg except after he squats to poop. But he cannot walk far without getting lame on it; he will just lie down and not walk anymore. I am trying to be hopeful since the specialty vet seems encouraging. The regular vet and I were both stumped because the limp is in his bad (formerly broken at the track) leg and the x-rays looked o.k. So I'm glad to have some answers. I'm very sorry for your loss. Guest jurishound
I am just reading this now - my sweet little Cricket developed what was believed to have been an autoimmune vascular illness which also caused her to develop clots. We discovered it when she began to limp and then developed pitting edema in one leg. Interestingly, during the DX we also found a thyroid tumor, which the Drs. thought might have caused a paraneoplastic illness. The tumor was resected but we never were able to determine whether or not this was the case. She was my very special little girl.
