  1. On the Rimadyl--make sure your vet has blood work scheduled to check the needed values (I forget if it's kidney or liver or what). If I remember correctly, Burpdog is familiar with the ins and outs of different NSAIDS. One thing I'm pretty sure of is that you shouldn't give prednisone w NSAIDS. Hope Leia is feeling better, Donna
  2. I voted 12-14 as Cosmo lived to be 14y, 4.5m. She had survived lymphoma for 28 m from when I first felt her nodes enlarged. She also had a probable case of degenerative myelopathy (doggie MS). She appeared to be cancer-free when we let her go to the bridge. She could no longer walk, and as best as we could tell, that was either/both from the DM or the prednisone used to treat the DM and the lymphoma. There is a man from England on the GH-L, Richard, who has had more than one live past 15 if I'm not mistaken. ETA--Daisy will be six in Aug. She has some food allergies, but is otherwise healthy, though often in danger of injuring herself because she runs everywhere.
  3. Sigrun, I am so sorry to read that Yoshi had to leave you so soon. When I read your first post earlier yesterday afternoon, I had so hoped you'd have more time together. I am sure Benny was there to meet Yoshi and show him the ropes. Donna
  4. Abourt a decade ago, there was an organization called "Racers for Racers" which involved NASCAR folks involved in greyhound adoption. At the time Derricke (sp?) Cope had a couple of GHs and I think Danielle Frye (her married name, I don't recall her maiden name), who is now a NASCAR reporter, were both involved. Danielle used to be on the GH-L when she worked for the NASCAR front office in PR. I don't know if either of them still has greyhounds, nor if the organization still exists. Anyone know? There are some folks who are involved in NASCAR trucks (I think as an owner or crew chief) who also own dogs that race. I don't recall names, but they are from Wisconsin and were involved w a championship team a couple of years ago. I think they are the folks who helped Tony buy his dogs. If anyone handles any of Tony Stewarts dogs, I'd love to hear if they are being graded off. I think there is even one named Zippy--after his crew chief. Any GT'ers got one of Smoke's dogs? And, no, I'm not into NASCAR, not even a little, Donna I am a big Tony Stewart race fan, and even a bigger fan now I know he has greys!
  5. I hope my VT Bridge-girl CoCo is there to celebrate too. Gentle cyber-hugs from France, Donna
  6. Suzie & Brian, I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to post. I'm sitting in a villa (B& in Nice, France reading this thread. I tried to read the thread last night and the network was shut down for the night before I got to post........... I am SO very sorry that Miss Nellie is gone!!! We all love our hounds, but she and you and your photos of her are/were just so special, you have all just touched my heart. Thank you for sharing this hard journey with all of us, so that we will each know better how to deal, should we ever have to follow the same path. Donna PS Please tell Brian I will hug my hounds long and hard as soon as I get back to the States.

    Austin

I am so very, very sorry. You have had far too much to bear this year. God Speed Austin, Donna
  9. Sigrun, you are so brave. I hung on to Cosmo far to long because the thought of letting her go broke my heart. Bless you for giving Benny this last gift of eternal good health. Donna
  10. My condolences to all involved. This is so very sad.
  11. Thanks to all for your replies. I do worry sometimes that I will forget her. The memories don't seem as clear sometimes as they used to. Also, my mom has Alzheimer's, so I don't assume that I will have my memories forever. I'm sure all of our pups are having fun romping at the Bridge. Peace, Donna

  13. Today would be my Cosmo Comet's 16th birthday. CoCo--Cosmo Comet 12-28-1989 to 5-4-2004 Happy Birthday to my sweet, soft velveteen girl! I miss you CoCo, I miss kissing your soft neck and ears. I say goodnight to your picture and hope you hear me. I love you so much, and hope I'll never forget you. Love, mom
  14. Please extend my sympathies to Honor's mom and all of his searchers. Also, during the memorial, please remember Sleigh for all of us here up North. And, please give Thanks for Gus and all the pups that have been safely found! Donna
  15. Tamara, I am so very sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing those beautiful pictures with us. It's really comforting when they come back to visit, isn't it? We had a couple of visits from our CoCo when she first left us. Know that you did the very best you could, and that it was better to let go than to hold on selfishly and let her suffer. Donna
  16. Isn't it wonderful and amazing when they send us signs?!? Donna
  17. Oh, Cheryl, I am so glad that she let you know that she is all right. Good girl, Honor, you made your foster mama feel so much better. Donna
  18. We're here in StA thinking of you and Matt, Donna
  19. Poor Scarlett. This is so very, very sad. I saw a post by her mom, with lots of dancing smilies, so happy to be heading to Dewey last week. I looked at Scarlett's picture. She was so beautiful. I can just imagine a little pair of greyhound angel wings behind that adorable hat of hers. Run with the wind with all our Bridge Angels sweet Scarlett. We'll keep your mom and dad and Rhett in our prayers. Donna
