  1. Jake is my 14 year old baby. I took him to the vet last week for antibotics for his bad teeth. Talked to the vet about his excessive drinking. He ran a urine sample and it came back with protein in it. They ran blood work yesterday and it came back today saying he has kidney disease. So he's on a special kidney diet now. The problem, he is an extremely picky eater. He likes everything for a little while, then he gets tired of it and won't eat. What can I safely add to his food now to hopefully entice him to eat? Any experiences you have with kidney disease would also be helpful.

  2. Denise,

If you are looking for something similar check out Grandma Lucy's. The Artisan formula is the same thing as The Honest Kitchen. I've mixed anywhere from a couple of tablespoons up to half a cup in their kibble and everything in the bowl would disappear. Our local private owned pet store stocks it. I've never seen in carried in the chain pet stores. I can give you a sample of the chicken - that's what I have here now. Or I can even pick up a bag for you. Link won't post, I'll PM you.

  3. The type of meat you buy also affects the price. The rabbit, pheasant, etc. are the higher priced one's here.

I have done the Grandmom Lucy's as well. Jake likes variety. He would grow tired of eating the same flavor day in and day out. The raw always me to change proteins much more often. Depends on your boy. Both are really good brands and I've yet to have any stomach issues.

  4. Jennifer,

I feed my senior boy Jake Stella and Chewy's frozen raw. The large patties are about $32 for a bag of 12. I feed Jake 2 patties twice a day. He seems extra hungry at night, so I add a half cup of kibble and mix it all together. I have also tried the little patties (medallions). They run about $29 a bag for 32 medallions. You would need to feed 12 to 14 medallions a day. With the large patties I get six days out of a bag. The medallions on the other hand you only get about 2.5 - 3 days. I have also done the freeze dried patties, but they are more money then the frozen. The most cost effective are the large patties. If you have more questions feel free to ask.
