Jake is my 14 year old baby. I took him to the vet last week for antibotics for his bad teeth. Talked to the vet about his excessive drinking. He ran a urine sample and it came back with protein in it. They ran blood work yesterday and it came back today saying he has kidney disease. So he's on a special kidney diet now. The problem, he is an extremely picky eater. He likes everything for a little while, then he gets tired of it and won't eat. What can I safely add to his food now to hopefully entice him to eat? Any experiences you have with kidney disease would also be helpful.

When is Brees not hyper?

So I Googled since you aren't allowed to. I'm now wondering if there is anything low thyroid doesn't lead to. You might want to do the TSH sooner then a month.

Rachael just texted me. Joe is being DISCHARGED!! She will update when she can. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers.

Sending good thoughts for my buddy Joe. Call me if you want to talk. Keep us posted.

I'm so sorry Judy, Mike and Kevin.

I really do need to buy you that beer caddy you can wear around your waist then.
Remind me to tell you the story of when Jake was only a foster and we broke him.
Brees be a good girl and heal quickly so you can come walkie again and come over for a play date.

Glad he is finally drinking.
I would start the Rimadyl tonight. That will take care of any pain. I would wait on the antibiotics when he has some food in his system.

Our first greyhound Kira (Driven by Energy) was taken away from us much too soon because of Osteo. It was heartbreaking and not something I wish on anyone. Mommy misses you Kira Girl.

Denise,
If you are looking for something similar check out Grandma Lucy's. The Artisan formula is the same thing as The Honest Kitchen. I've mixed anywhere from a couple of tablespoons up to half a cup in their kibble and everything in the bowl would disappear. Our local private owned pet store stocks it. I've never seen in carried in the chain pet stores. I can give you a sample of the chicken - that's what I have here now. Or I can even pick up a bag for you. Link won't post, I'll PM you.

What are you doing to my poor boy?! Don't make me come over there!

Could you please add Carolina's older sister Athena? Her Mom sent her to the bridge today.

The type of meat you buy also affects the price. The rabbit, pheasant, etc. are the higher priced one's here.
I have done the Grandmom Lucy's as well. Jake likes variety. He would grow tired of eating the same flavor day in and day out. The raw always me to change proteins much more often. Depends on your boy. Both are really good brands and I've yet to have any stomach issues.

Jennifer,
I feed my senior boy Jake Stella and Chewy's frozen raw. The large patties are about $32 for a bag of 12. I feed Jake 2 patties twice a day. He seems extra hungry at night, so I add a half cup of kibble and mix it all together. I have also tried the little patties (medallions). They run about $29 a bag for 32 medallions. You would need to feed 12 to 14 medallions a day. With the large patties I get six days out of a bag. The medallions on the other hand you only get about 2.5 - 3 days. I have also done the freeze dried patties, but they are more money then the frozen. The most cost effective are the large patties. If you have more questions feel free to ask.

Oh no, not again. Brees why can't you just leave the kitties alone? Do you want to borrow Jake's cone?
-
Try some tuna fish. Jake is a big fish fan. Cottage cheese too, something really smelly.

WooHoo! I need my Izzy, Thyme and Miami fix.
-
Let us know how the vet appointment goes. Are you still planning on walking with us tomorrow?
-
WooHoo!! Great news! Miami try and be a good boy tomorrow and give your Mom a little rest.

He looks just right. I personally prefer them to have a little extra meat on their bones incase anything should happen.
