  1. Rebel started to bleed after he was chipped. Nothing to the extent of Allen though. I'm not sure if something went wrong or if something was knicked in the process.

You might want to have Allen wanded to see if the chip is still there. When the vet wanded Rebel, he didn't have a chip. The only thing we can think of is that it came out when he was bleeding. I had to have him rechipped and this time, the vet used surgical glue to close the insertion hole.

  2. This is similar to the one I got for Jake. It's high off the ground so I had to pick him up to get him in it. Also it doesn't have any brakes. Personally I think it's heavy and a lot of weight to pull around even without a hound in it. I never really used it for those reasons.

  3. Thanks Dick! Very cool information. Ready AKA Rebel isn't one for chasing either. Squirrels and rabbits don't phase him, unlike Daphne who goes crazy.

If you don't mind, I would like your input on a couple of other hounds. My good old Plainfield babies!

R and A Carolina. She seemed to have one burst of energy and afterwards turned into a slug.

Jumpstart Dude. He could run and run forever.

Driven by Energy. I was told she raced at Plainfield and also Lincoln. I haven't been able to find any racing lines for her though at all.

    Thanks!

  4. Glad I'm not the only one who knows this. With the baby sock, how do you prevent the foot from slipping on hard flooring, bet wrap around bottom?

The baby socks I got from Kohl's have the size (3 to 12 months) embossed on the bottom (twice) with rubber. In my experience though, the sock slides around on the foot so the bottom doesn't usually stay on the bottom. I wonder if there would be less rotation with a smaller sized sock?

  5. I think it really depends on how bonded she is to you. When I first adopted Rebel, he was extremely shy and fearful. I couldn't let him off leash in any enclosed area because he wouldn't come back to me. After several months Rebel and I developed a strong bond. I finally decided to try the dog park with him. It was a completely different experience then I expected. He had no interest in running, was just content to follow me around. He knew I would protect him from the strangers and other dogs.

If she is bonded to you and she knows she can trust you, then give the dog park a try. If you aren't her "safety blanket," then no I wouldn't trust her off leash for fear of fence jumping like you mentioned already. Can they jump a four or five foot fence? If they are spooked, absolutely!

  6. Rebel had his corn removed. It will be two weeks tomorrow. The vet used a biopsy punch in order to get clean and deep margins. She put two stitches in to close the pad. It has been a battle to get him to leave his foot alone. He managed to mangle one of the stitches and now has an open wound. He is on antibiotics, just in case and I'm doing warm compresses to also help with healing. How long does it take for pads to heal? Is there anything else I can do to speed things along? He is still limping and hesitant to bear weight on it.

  7. Rebel had his teeth cleaned yesterday and at the same time she removed his corn. He has two stitches and his paw is wrapped up. He doesn't want to walk on it. In the house he is pretty much a tripod, outside he uses it but he definitely favors it. He is on a very low dose of pain meds. I talked to the vet this morning and she said we will decide what do when he comes in for a bandage change tomorrow morning. How do you tell the difference between actual pain and just wanting sympathy?

  8. Meet my new edition, Daphne! She comes home Sunday. She will be spayed Wednesday. All of the hounds I have adopted in the past were altered before reaching the adoption group. So I have zero experience at the moment. What can I expect or what modifications do I need to make so she has a smooth recovery? I will be asking my adoption rep the same questions but would like to be prepared before bringing her home.

  9. Thanks for posting Rachael!

Rebel hasn't been willing to walk around the neighborhood this week, I chalked it up to him being afraid; he's a bit of a spook. We came back from a brisk walk in the park with his greyhound friends and I noticed him holding his paw in the air and a slight limp. I took a look to discover what I assume is a corn.

I understand the purpose of hulling but have no idea how to go about it. If I was to hull it, would the corn come back again?
