Can you add Carolina? She passed in April.

This is similar to the one I got for Jake. It's high off the ground so I had to pick him up to get him in it. Also it doesn't have any brakes. Personally I think it's heavy and a lot of weight to pull around even without a hound in it. I never really used it for those reasons.

Yes, with Rebel's corn removal we were back every three days for a new bandage. I think it was $25 each time. At the E-Vet, I've paid $125 (that was 10 + years ago) for bandage changes.
With that said, $140 is excessive if it's her regular vet. Is she being charged for an office visit too?

I would soak, it can't hurt. Maybe it will speed up healing too.

Hi AmyLynne! The big red boy in my siggy should look familiar.
-
Thanks. The Ziploc bag didn't go as well as I'd hoped. Lots of water everywhere. Will try putting less in next time.
Yeah that happens a lot here too. I stick several bath towels underneath the bag. With Rebel it's a battle to get his foot in the bag and getting him leave it there.

Do both at the same time. A little squirt of iodine and about a tablespoon of salt in a half filled gallon zip lock bag with warm water. Soak 15-20 minutes, dump bag and add warm clean water to rinse. Dry well with a towel.

Thanks Dick! Very cool information. Ready AKA Rebel isn't one for chasing either. Squirrels and rabbits don't phase him, unlike Daphne who goes crazy.
If you don't mind, I would like your input on a couple of other hounds. My good old Plainfield babies!
R and A Carolina. She seemed to have one burst of energy and afterwards turned into a slug.
Jumpstart Dude. He could run and run forever.
Driven by Energy. I was told she raced at Plainfield and also Lincoln. I haven't been able to find any racing lines for her though at all.
Thanks!

Hi Dick,
I was wondering if you could find any information on my boy FA Ready. I was told he never raced, I assumed because he was too shy.
I would also love to have your input on Easi Daphne.
Thanks!

Glad I'm not the only one who knows this. With the baby sock, how do you prevent the foot from slipping on hard flooring, bet wrap around bottom?
The baby socks I got from Kohl's have the size (3 to 12 months) embossed on the bottom (twice) with rubber. In my experience though, the sock slides around on the foot so the bottom doesn't usually stay on the bottom. I wonder if there would be less rotation with a smaller sized sock?

I think it really depends on how bonded she is to you. When I first adopted Rebel, he was extremely shy and fearful. I couldn't let him off leash in any enclosed area because he wouldn't come back to me. After several months Rebel and I developed a strong bond. I finally decided to try the dog park with him. It was a completely different experience then I expected. He had no interest in running, was just content to follow me around. He knew I would protect him from the strangers and other dogs.
If she is bonded to you and she knows she can trust you, then give the dog park a try. If you aren't her "safety blanket," then no I wouldn't trust her off leash for fear of fence jumping like you mentioned already. Can they jump a four or five foot fence? If they are spooked, absolutely!

Rachael, I can talk to the vet Friday for you if you want.

Baby socks. I use paper tape on the sock. Tape it right above the thickest part of his paw. Fold the sock down over the tape so he can't chew at it.

Rebel had his corn removed. It will be two weeks tomorrow. The vet used a biopsy punch in order to get clean and deep margins. She put two stitches in to close the pad. It has been a battle to get him to leave his foot alone. He managed to mangle one of the stitches and now has an open wound. He is on antibiotics, just in case and I'm doing warm compresses to also help with healing. How long does it take for pads to heal? Is there anything else I can do to speed things along? He is still limping and hesitant to bear weight on it.

Thanks Tracey! I will demand to be present during the bandage change to see what she did. I just hope with the corn removed he feels better.

Carprofen 50 mg twice a day

Rebel had his teeth cleaned yesterday and at the same time she removed his corn. He has two stitches and his paw is wrapped up. He doesn't want to walk on it. In the house he is pretty much a tripod, outside he uses it but he definitely favors it. He is on a very low dose of pain meds. I talked to the vet this morning and she said we will decide what do when he comes in for a bandage change tomorrow morning. How do you tell the difference between actual pain and just wanting sympathy?

Meet my new edition, Daphne! She comes home Sunday. She will be spayed Wednesday. All of the hounds I have adopted in the past were altered before reaching the adoption group. So I have zero experience at the moment. What can I expect or what modifications do I need to make so she has a smooth recovery? I will be asking my adoption rep the same questions but would like to be prepared before bringing her home.

I was at the grocery store looking for beef necks and shins to freeze and help clean the kids teeth. The store also had beef marrow bones, has anyone ever used them to help clean hound teeth?
-
Brees took the chunk out of her own nose. When I saw her yesterday it was swollen but nothing else.
Brees, you are a hot mess and make everyone worry.
-
Thank you everyone for the advice and video! This seems much more manageable now. Rebel is a lot tougher then I give him credit for. I never noticed him favoring that paw until the corn was on the surface and ready to be removed. I baby him which is no surprise because he is a baby, he's only three.

Rachael is a life saver! Rebel was such a good boy for her. Rachael you are hired from here on out!

Thanks for posting Rachael!
Rebel hasn't been willing to walk around the neighborhood this week, I chalked it up to him being afraid; he's a bit of a spook. We came back from a brisk walk in the park with his greyhound friends and I noticed him holding his paw in the air and a slight limp. I took a look to discover what I assume is a corn.
I understand the purpose of hulling but have no idea how to go about it. If I was to hull it, would the corn come back again?

We have Trupanion, and they are easy to deal with. Based on our rising premiums, I will likely do Healthy Paws for Next Dog.
Would those rising premiums have anything to do with a pretty cat zapper over there?
Bleeding After Microchip Insertion

Rebel started to bleed after he was chipped. Nothing to the extent of Allen though. I'm not sure if something went wrong or if something was knicked in the process.
You might want to have Allen wanded to see if the chip is still there. When the vet wanded Rebel, he didn't have a chip. The only thing we can think of is that it came out when he was bleeding. I had to have him rechipped and this time, the vet used surgical glue to close the insertion hole.
