  1. I'm so sorry! You gave her a good, very long, life, though I know it's never long enough. :grouphug
  2. Trish, I am so very sorry for your loss. :groughug
  3. Oh, that's good. Nothing comes out of corns. I bet he's got something lodged in there.
  4. Yeah, if you have to see an orthopod, almost everybody around will recommend Dr. Sherman Canapp. His wife is a physical therapist vet, as well. They have a nice little practice and the cool thing is that they share space with an e-vet, so you can drop your pup early in the morning and pick up late in the day and not miss work Hope you can get to the bottom of it.
  5. Dr. Feeman, I'm sorry to hear that Sky has passed. I rather like Jon Katz' epitath to his dog Orson: "A good dog". It's very simple, but I think it says so much...
  6. Where is Overlea? I ask because I have a good chiropractor and she travels to people's homes to do work. She coveres the Baltimore/DC/NOVA area. If you're out near Cumberland, I doubt she'd go that far out, but let me know if you want her contact info. Also, one of the best orthopods in the area is in Ellicott City - Dr. Sherman Canapp at Veterinary Orthopedic Sports Medicine (VOSM - www.vetsportsmedicine.com, I think). Barring all that, you can always make the haul out to Wheeling and see Dr. James Radcliffe (www.townandcountryanimalhospital.com). He's a great vet, an orthopod, and KNOWS his sighthounds. He treats the Wheeling Downs pups.
  7. Yup on getting two boots. Turbo was still gimping around badly on one - Dr. Radcliffe directed me to get him two and Voila!
  8. Yup. Looks like a corn. See if you can get a vet to hull it for you.
  9. How horrible! I just don't understand people... Huge hugs and sympathy to the family :grouphug :grouphug

    OMG. I'm so, so sorry....
  11. I am SO sorry, Heather. I saw your new siggie and I just went looking all over the place to see what happened. I guess you were typing as I was searching. You and Ken gave the old girl a wonderful retirement. Big hugs to you both. :grouphug
  12. I've heard the efficacy rate is something like 60% (could not even begin to tell you from where I heard that number). Turbo got the lyme vax when I first adopted him, but hasn't had it since.

I'm very, very sorry for your loss.
  14. http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?showtopic=161227 you will need to post a link to that thread, or open a new thread in the tech forum with the details. But I can't post links Ok - will go to tech forum...
  15. OK, I fully admit that I'm a techie idiot, but I cannot seem to insert a hyperlink (see my response in the Therapaws thread). I tried using the function to the left of the reply box, but that got me nowhere (well, it got me an error message) and I also tried cutting and pasting from the browser and that didn't work. I'm on Firefox. What am I missing?
  16. I was going to say the same thing re: hairline fracture. I think they can - he might be toe-touch lame, but might still be putting *some* weight on the leg. I'd go and get an x-ray for peace of mind. If it's the knee, he may have torn the ACL, which would be very painful. Yeah, I'd go to a vet, just in case. I think paying an office visit and/or x-ray is worth it.
  17. Deanna, I'm so sorry. You gave her a wonderful home and she knew she was loved. :grouphug
  18. OMG - I'm just seeing this. I had no idea! I'm so sorry for your loss, Jay. You gave her a wonderful retirement. :grouphug
  19. Usually they are not "attacking" each other. All dogs like to nip when they play. Combine nipping with a 40mph run and thin skin and you end up with a huge tear in the dog's skin. Otherwise, yes, greyhounds are dogs and they behave like dogs. Like any other breed dog, the pack mentality can kick in and you get a fight. Greyhounds are NOT unique in this. If you go to a dog park and there's a tussel, other dogs will come streaming in to check it out. I would say that by and large, greyhounds get on together BETTER than most non-greyhounds because they have been raised around other greyhounds (not taken from their dams at a young age and raised solely by humans) and understand dog language much better than non-greyhounds (or rather, dogs taken from their dams at a young age). I've been to probably hundreds of greyhound only playgroups and have never seen anything get out of control (tussels, yes, outright viciously attacking eachother? Absolutely not.) Sleep/space aggression: US greyhounds are used to being crated and not used to sharing space/toys/beds, etc. Most greyhounds are NOT sleep/space aggressive, but it does exist due to their unique upbringing. Most of this type of "aggression" can be trained out with patience and desensitization. Also, folks post in training and behavior when they are having problems with their dogs. Certainly not every member of this board posts here, so what you're looking at is ONLY problem behavior. I'll go out on a limb here and say that most folks have no aggression problems with their greyhounds at all. Greyhounds are a gentle breed of dog, but they are dogs, and all that comes with that
  20. DC/MD/NOVA Weekly fun run in indoor riding arena in Gaithersburg, MD. The run is on Sundays from 6pm - 6:30pm at the Potomac Horse Center. If interested, please PM me, and I'll give you the phone number to call to make sure the run is on (it's a private residence, so I don't want to post here). MUZZLES REQUIRED - GREYHOUNDS ONLY
  21. Welcome, Reyes! Lovely houndie I used to live in Cadiz - dad was military and I spent a few years over in Rota.
  22. Glad Hannah's OK. We had to induce here tonight as well. I think my H202 was a bit flat - it took quite a bit to get the desired effect but we had success. *sigh*

    Gable Dodge

Aw, that's sad. I know we've adopted out a lot of his babies. Here's his G-D page - what a beautiful boy! http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?z=ax0ZYo&d=gable+dodge
