  1. That's definitely possible. She never used to but I did notice her slipping this morning.
  2. yes, I'm going to call and arrange it. Her urine is concentrate but always has been as long as she's been there. no odour at all that I can notice.
  3. Dee has never been incontinent in the house. Last night, she was very, very restless. I thought it was because my 16-yr-old moved his bedroom from across the hall to his older brother's room in the basement. Dee was up and down all night; I let her out a couple of times. One time I found she had peed near the door and this morning, DH found two areas in the living room that had been peed on. One was tried up and the other was fresher and near the stairs. I hope this is a one-time thing and not related to whatever may be wrong with her. In the mean time, we have cheap laminate flooring and obviously some of the urine went between the cracks. What can I do to make sure it doesn't start to smell? Poor Dee - i'm going to call our vet today and see what we should do. The urine was quite concentrate and didn't smell like there was any bladder infection. Edited to add: dee also had trouble getting started to go up the stairs to the bedroom. I could hear her doing several false starts before she made it up, yet she's not limping any worse than before.
  4. I've been avoiding this forum..... I'm so very sorry.
  5. THanks for checking. I haven't heard yet; I assume the x-rays are just getting there now. Bracing for the worst, hoping for the best - will accept anything in between....
  6. I hate this. I just have a bad feeling about this. I'm trying to be optimistic, but something keeps nagging at me. I tell my friends, I'm hoping for the best but bracing for the worst.
  7. I have Dee's x-rays and treatment history, such as it is and am sending them off to Dr. C asap - Dee's limp is worsening and her appetite is down. Mind you, that could be due to the anti-inflammatory, so I'm trying not to jump to conclusions. The vet here was wonderful. She called - I was about to call her to get the x-rays - to check up on Dee and when she heard she wasn't improving, she told me to bring her in right away. She gave her another exam, wrote out Dee's treatment history in English for Dr. Couto as her file is in French, and gave me the envelopes to use for the x-rays. Just in case one of the meds we used isn't available in the US, she also put in the drug monograph, so Dr. C could see what it was. The cost? No charge. Please think good thoughts for my brat girl, my baby girl, my little lady, my love.
  8. That's what I'm going to do - I'll call first thing Monday morning and arrange it.
  9. Dee has a very slight limp, which is very likely due to an old break in her hind leg. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that she wasn't bearing any weight on that paw when she stands still, although the limp wasn't any worse. I brought her to the vet for a set of x-rays. The vet was wonderful. she's new to me and spent an hour just looking at Dee's legs, feeling them, checking them, having me walk back and forth across a long room so she could observe the walk, and so on. The x-rays were perfect for the hips and one leg. The favoured leg has nasty, bad arthritis around the old break and a black spot on the bone. The vet felt it was either an infection or what I feared, but she strongly believed it was an infection because that particular spot is very rare for tumours. She changed Dee's ant-inflammatory from Rimadyle to something else (a once-a-day med) and I saw an instant improvement in her. She was back to her playful self and seemed to not be favouring the leg so much. I'm sure it wasn't the antibiotics because the improvement was within hours of the anti-inflammatory and she hadn't had a dose of antibiotic yet. Plus, it takes longer for them to work. But today, particularly, she was not putting any weight on it at all when she stands. But, oddly enough, no limp at all unless you know she has one. It's actually nicer and {cough, cough} warmer here than it has been lately.
  10. I saw definite improvement in her when I started her on her new anti-inflammatories. She was bearing weight on her paw when standing and seemed so much happier. Today, I noticed that she was not bearing as much weight as she could, and when we went for a walk, every time we stopped for more than a few seconds, she picked her hind leg off the ground. damn, damn, damn...
  11. I found a local vet who knows greys because the vet I like for Dee is only available on Fridays and here they were willing and able to take her in this afternoon to have a look. The vet spent over an hour with her so her leg was checked very, very carefully. We had her leg and hips x-rayed. The vet said she'd never seen such good, clear hip x-rays on a dog that wasn't asleep. (insert proud mama emoticon here ) Her hips are clear, the bones good and solid. The problem is near her ankle where she broke her leg many years ago. The arthritls around the break is very bad and - here's the scary part - there's a dark spot on the bone. However, she and the radiologist feel that it could be an infection because she did have a skin infection over that leg when she arrived so we're starting her on a different anti-inflammatory and a 3-week course of antibiotics, after which we'll x-ray again. Of course, if I see any changes for the worse, I can bring her back right away. So, the verdict is guarded - it could be just an infection. The vet said that where the spot is, it is very rare to have a cancer there, so I'm hanging on to that. Poor Dee is exhausted. Honestly, I"ve never, ever seen a vet be that thorough checking legs. She was amazing.
  12. Not much of a change. Her appetite isn't great. Can't get hold of the vet today but I'm watching her like a hawk.
  13. Thanks folks. I completely forgot about giving her gluc - I was before but not for the past while. Shoot. I'll get some more in the morning. I didn't get a chance to call the vet today, but I will tomorrow morning. I want him to have a look but that's just the paranoid me now.
  14. I can't help you but I wanted to say OH my! What a gorgeous dog!
  15. Here we go again. Before Christmas, our vet said that Dee's constant chewing of her left hind leg could be an indicator of pain since it's obvious that she had broken it some time ago and it never set properly. I was giving her remadyl to see if that would help cut down on her discomfort and reduce the chewing. At the same time, she was having major tummy troubles and gas, so we figured that she was allergic to the food she was eating and I switched her to proplan salmon. She's doing SO much better on the new food, tummy and fart-wise, and her itching did improve considerably. But, her chewing on her left leg has gotten really bad again and I noticed this morning that when she stands, she puts as little weight as possible on that leg. She is not, however, limping noticeably - just a very slight limp that she's had since she came. I guess I'm not asking for anything, just wanted some reassurance maybe.
