  1. We think that is what happened. He came directly from the track (the now closed Twin River), Christmas 2008 about a month after his last race, and we didn't notice anything at the time. But later it got infected and the toenail just dropped off. A round of antibiotics cleared it up and the toenail grew back, but at this odd angle. We get it trimmed at the vet, but I was hoping for a permanent solution. But I guess since it doesn't seem to cause him pain, it's not a huge deal.
  2. In the scope of things, I know this is not a huge deal. Especially seeing what other pups are going thru. And this is not the first time I've posted images of this toenail of Finn's. But the vet has said the only real option is to keep it trimmed (and it's time for a trim now). But has anyone heard of other things that can be done for toenails that grow at odd angles?

  5. My sympathies are extended to you.
  6. Adding my heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.
  7. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Stampede.
  8. Due to space limitations, crates would be difficult. But we can feed them in separate rooms.
  9. I can't believe this happened. Tornado and Finn just got fed. They get 2 cups of their kibble in the evening. Their bowls are apart from one another- separated by a large chest freezer. For whatever reason, as they were eating, Tornado went over to Finn as he was eating and attempted to get his food (Tornado had been "served" first, so he did have his own). Finn, of course, defended his food and they had a short fight. Tornado came away dripping blood (although on close inspection it's just one nick on his nose and stopped bleeding quickly). As a side note, there was a bag (double bagged) of chicken bones on top of the freezer, out of their reach and waiting to be taken to the outside trash, in between them. But Finn wasn't going for it and neither was Tornado. That's the only thing I can figure as to the reason this happened. Otherwise, I am stunned. Tornado does have space aggression, fear aggression, etc, but Finn was no where near him and had not made a move to go near Tornado. Any comments or ideas about this? I can't muzzle them while they are eating. Will I just need to stand between them when they eat now? My DH was with them and stopped it quickly and I came running too....
  10. I found this pinned topic to be very helpful, when we decided to change what we were feeding our boys: Grade for Dog Kibble I was amazed to see that what we thought was a good kibble had a poor grade.
  11. I am so sorry. May he RIP.
  12. I'm saying my prayers for all of you. Hoping the remaining time (however long it is) is fabulous and full of wonderful memories.
  13. We took Finn to the vet this a.m. There is no dislocation of the toe and no issues with the toenail. The vet trimmed the nail back quite a bit and suggested we just watch it.
  14. I never even thought of that. Thanks. I'll have to ask them that, when we see them.
  15. Finn had what we thought was a bad left shoulder muscle pull a few weeks ago. He had xrays so we could make sure he had no breaks or arthritis. Xrays looked great. This morning I noticed that his left toe is growing at an odd angle to his foot. He had lost this toe nail about a year ago- we don't know exactly how or when, it was just missing one day. We'll be taking him to the vet for a look at it, but I was wondering if anyone else had ever seen toe nails at an odd angle or know if anything can or should be done about it. I'm also wondering if it wasn't his shoulder after all, but pain from this toe nail angle. I'm pasting photos of his left toe nail (the odd one) and the right toe nail (good one) for comparison.
  16. I'm so sorry. RIP Lynch.

  18. DK Forever More aka Penny September 23, 2003 - November 14, 2008 On what would have been your seventh birthday, I give thanks to God for the special gift He gave us when He put you in our lives. The second anniversary of your passing will not go unnoticed, but I choose to celebrate your birthday by sharing memories of you. You were so full of joy, that I cannot let sad thoughts or memories of the tragedies that were a part of your life consume me. Daily I remember you, so in some ways your birthday will just be another of those days. But Thursday, your birthday, I'll light a candle. I'll sit for awhile and have myself a good cry. I'll take the photo album down from the mantle and remember each wonderful moment we had with you. I'll take the collar and leash (that NancyB sent you) from the hooks on the mantle where it hangs, and just for a moment, I'll close my eyes and remember you wearing it. I'll play with the dirty, torn up stuffed bull dog that was your favorite toy. I'll watch the two short videos we have of you. And I'll read all the Remembrance posts from GT that I printed out. George and I will spend some time reminiscing, I'm sure. But then I'll blow out the candle, wipe my tears and put your stuff back on the shelf. I can't have you back, but memories of you will never leave me and for that, too, I will thank God.
  19. My thoughts, prayers and sympathy go out to you.
  20. I'm so sorry for your loss of Bear. But what wonderful memories you have of him! Thanks for sharing him with us. I know he will be missed terribly.
