If anyone has any ideas on what Finn is doing in this video, I would appreciate it.
He had just eaten about five minutes before, when he started moving his tongue
around a lot and flipping his head up. Not sure what to make of it. Perhaps
something was caught in his throat??
Please excuse my husband talking in this. I had called him into the room, cause
at first I thought Finn was choking, but he wasn't. His breathing was fine.
Shortly after the video ends, he stopped the "behavior" and was his "normal"
self.

I'm so sorry. Hang on to those precious memories!

I am so sorry. It's doubley hard when you don't know what happened or why.

Thanks all. So far, his only symptom is moderate limping (well, plus the xray). But he has always (3 yrs) had a slight limp, so it was hard to tell when it really changed. He is still jumping around (which we are trying hard to discourage) and goofy as usual, eating fine, wants to go for walks, etc. One of the cats is now limping and not walking on his left front foot. Sympathetic pain??

We're not in the business of debating things regarding treatment here...some choose amp and chemo, some choose varying degrees of palliative care. There's no wrong choice here.
This is a place for support and sharing of information...so please feel free to post questions, etc...
I'm so sorry you've joined the osteo club
Thanks krissn333. We are probably going to choose just pain control. But what we fear most is a spontaneous fracture. Is there any way for a vet to determine how likely that is? My DH is home all the time, but he doesn't drive, so if something happens, we would have to hope there is a neighbor who could get Finn and my DH to the vet ASAP. Since it may happen that no one is available, I would hate to see Finn suffer. Ugh, what to do?

Sorry, I don't want to hijack this thread. But is there anyone who I could PM with or
phone? We learned on Friday that our Finn probably has osteo in his left front shoulder.
I don't want to get into a debate with anyone about treatment choices. If anyone
is on now and recalls our Penny history, they may understand why.
Finn is a cousin/half-brother to Penny. He is nine years old. My main
concern is spontaneous fracture. Thanks.

Just another thought...if he does end up needing to have surgery, I'd consider a biopsy if there's any abnormal-looking tissue in the area. Hopefully it's 'just' related to injury/bleeding issues, but I've known of a couple similar cases (not greyhounds) where it ended up being hemangiosarcoma.
We will probably be going the surgery route for Tornado. He had another
"episode" of uncontrollable bleeding last week and had it cauterized again.
He has had extensive blood work and testing for tick related issues.
Everything came up fine. I just never thought about it being anything
other than an artery issue. So thanks for the suggestion.

Update: Last night (Tuesday) the vet had to apply a tourniquet to get the bleeding to stop. Blood work is being done to see if he has a blood clotting disorder. They may test for VonWilldebrand's Disease. He may need surgery on the arteries in his leg, to find "the bleeder".

........... Like that liquid bandage stuff or super-glue (except the solvents can NOT be good for the health!).......
Forgot to say, when it first happened we brought him to the e-vet (Tufts) and they massively sedated him
and put the super-glue on the toe. So we spent about $400 and it opened up as I got him in to the car
to bring him home.
Duct tape. Maybe. Wonder if our vet would go for that.

Tornado is nearly 12. About a six weeks ago, he nicked an artery near the edge of the lowest pad on his
right hind leg. It gushed. It is impossible for me to handle him when it comes to touching his legs,
even when muzzled. He goes beserk. (This is nothing new).We brought him to the vet (where he behaves) and
they wrapped it. After a few days, when the bandage was removed, the paw was fine for a few days. Then it
started gushing again. This bandage on and removal went on a few more times up until his dental about
10 days ago. While he was sedated for the dental, the vet cauterized the artery, stitched it up and
bandaged it. It was okay for a few days then it started bleeding again, slightly. We brought him back and got it
bandaged up again. Now the bandage has fallen off and it's bleeding some, from time to time. We keep his movement
around the house limited. He is due to get the stitches out in a few days (Thursday).
I'm just wondering if anyone has a grey with a similar history, in terms of a wound next to a pad keeps
opening and doesn't completely heal. I was thinking that perhaps we should get a booty and put it on
his paw for like six months, to give it time to really heal. Or should we bring him to some kind of specialist
that deals with skin integrity- but what kind of specialist would that be? Our carpets, floors and rugs are
covered in blood, so I'm at my wits end. But more than that, it can't be good for this wound to stay open.
He has finished up a round of antibiotics. Now what should we do? PLEASE. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks all. Since the snapping came from no where- he was just sitting there, I was inclined to think it wasn't happy, playful type behavior. And since he seemed perfectly fine before and after, I didn't think seizure. So I will wait and see. It really could have been either of those.
-
Yesterday I was sitting on the bed with Tornado next to me. Three times in a row (a few seconds apart), he snapped the air like he was trying to catch a fly, only there was no fly. Any idea what that could be? He is going to be 12 in early November. Otherwise he has been himself.

Thanks everybody. I tend to panic, but once I knew he wasn't choking, then I couldn't figure out what he was doing. But your responses make sense. And ya, he is a cute, goofy guy.
