  1. I was almost speechless when you told me about Soul's passing a few weeks ago. I am SO sorry. Soul was such a great brother to our Tornado. I have fond memories of him, when he came on T's last day (and a video of them together that day, 3 years ago.) RIP Soul.

  2. Deano, who is 3, started vomiting on Friday and most of it was fresh blood. We brought him to the ER and he was admitted. They put in an IV, did blood work and an ultrasound. So far, most of his blood work is okay. One of his liver tests was off a little, but other liver values were okay. His coagulation time is also a little long. Right now they think it is hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. He will probably come home tomorrow (Sunday). I googled h.g. but it seems like there are lots of possible causes. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. He has been mostly healthy, except for some anal gland issues about 6 months ago- but that cleared up on its own. If you have any experience with this, please let me know. We just finished transitioning him to a new kibble, but we did it gradually over 3 weeks.

  3. Our first greyhound, Tornado, had separation anxiety. But it didn't start until he had been with us for about six months. I think it didn't start until he had really bonded with us and truly missed us. Maybe that's what has happened with Spock?

Tornado eventually was able to adjust to being alone- we did the alone training, medication and added one day a week of day care.

  4. Deano (aka http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?z=Yyvg-L&d=Dean+Smith&x=0&y=0 Dean Smith) came home about 3 months ago. He will be 3 in September. About two weeks ago, my DH and I started noticing that his coat (especially near his hind end) was coming in "oddly" it is different shades of black or dark brown and some spots are different lengths. We are not sure if he just has an odd coat or if it could be something medical. He is acting, eating, drinking, peeing, etc the same as always. I brush him regularly and that doesn't seem to change anything (he doesn't lose more hair in these spots or anything after being brushed)

Here is a photo. Does anyone have any ideas about what this is? He lis listed as black.

  5. A 2.5-yr-old is an adult and doesn't need puppy food. .....I usually try to feed equal meals in the morning and evening.

How does he look? Are you seeing a lot of ribs, spine, and hip bones? .....

Thanks. Just to clarify, he is getting adult food now. I don't see his spine or hip bones, but I do see his ribs. So I think I will increase his food. Another question, why do you feel it is important to feed equal amounts morning and evening?
  6. It's been several years since we've had a puppy in the house. We just got Deano and he is 2 1/2. We feed one can of Pro Plan in the morning and two cups of Nature's Recipe kibble in the evening. He weighs 72 pounds (and is slightly taller than our 82 pound Finn) and I think he should gain a few pounds. I think we could increase the kibble and we should probably get the puppy version versus the adult that we usually get.

So any ideas on how much to increase on the kibble? What about puppy versus adult? When are they considered an adult?

  7. My beloved boy, Tornado, is gone. We helped him to the bridge. Words cannot

truly express my deep love for this wonderful creature that God gave us.

    Things Tornado loved:

-Lying outside in the grass on hot, humid days

-Walking the perimeter of the yard before doing his business

-His cat, Jasmine, walking underneath him and tickling him with her tail

-Going for a walky-walk to "The Sniffing Place"

    -Riding in the car

Soulsmom brought his brother over for one last visit this morning and he loved that!

This is one way I will remember him, running. This was taken on his tenth birthday:

And a poem I wrote several years ago, after my cat passed. But I think these are Tornado's words too:

    Shed but one tear

    If you must.

Let it slide down your cheek

    To dry upon your lips.

    Turn your lips upward

    Remember

    Joy, laughter, good times.

    Think of those past times

    With happiness.

    Let those thoughts

    Console, comfort, wrap around you.

    Never dwell on sad thoughts-

    Hold on only to happiness.

Do not let grief consume you.

    Let your memories empower you

    To be strong and confident.

Though you may be sad that I am gone

Do not hold on to sadness

My time for life came and it has gone.

Let He who gives Eternal Life guide you

And turn every grief filled moment in to

    Thoughts of everlasting life.

For I am looking forward to that time

    When we will meet again.
