  1. Did your girl have an ultrasound preformed?? Also, I second the ACTH test--a must to rule out or confirm cushings.
  2. Glad she's on the mend--keep those treats a flowing
  3. Ditto with LynnM. If she is in good health there is no reason she can't have her teeth cleaned. Your vet may want to run a pre-op blood panel (which she should have done yearly at her age anyway) and he/she may want to snap a chest rad and/or run an ekg (to check heart function) just to make sure everything is okay before putting her under. Age is not a disease but, you have to run certain precautions. Do start giving ab's prior to her dental day and please have your vet administer IV fluids while she under it will speed her recovery--IMHO:P
  4. I think you're confusing Albumin and microalbumin. Albumin is tested from blood serum and microalbumin is tested from the urine. You had mentioned the the urinalysis came back okay. Hope the new test comes back within normal limits. Keep us updated!
  5. How were the other protein values--Total protein, globulin? How was the cholesterol and calcium values? I wouldn't worry yet but you if wanted to you could always perform a bile acids test to check the liver function. How is Asia'a stool?
  6. Kudos for you for changing vets. To many folks are just willing to take everything handed to them like gospel. You need to follow your gut feeling--if it doesn't smell right then it's most likely poopie
  7. My guess would be allergies. Did you just recently change foods?? New treats?? You might try giving Benadryl to see if it helps. You can safely give one mg/lb 3 times a day. The OTC tablets are 25 mgs each. So, a 75lb dog could get up to 75mgs 3 times a day. If that doesn't help you may need to make a trip to your vet as another medication may be more beneficial to your houndie. Sorry to hear about Meadow.
  8. I have to agree with you about the exam fee. If anything you should only have been charged for a recheck. Recheck fees are usualy about 1/2 the price of a full px. I think I would mention something to the office manager as you may have been charged incorrectly. Hope he's feeling better
  9. Your baby needs to see the Dr a.s.a.p. Even if they don't think that Rads are warranted pain management is. He may need drugs like Tramadol or Buprenex. Not to worry you but, I've seen dogs walk on severely broken legs. Hope he improves quickly!
  10. Liver issues?? I would have the Vet run a lepto titer just to rule it out.
  11. Looks like the wounds were caused by some sort of trauma--was she running around prior to noticing the injury?
  12. I would check for corns--vets can miss them
  13. I would take his temp--101.5 is average.
  14. Here's a good soaking trick--ask your vet for an old IV bag. Fill the bag 1/2 way with warm water and epsom salts and slide the bag on--soak for 10 mintues a few times a day. The IV bags are very sturdy and will last a long time and the best thing about them is they are free!
  15. I wonder if the heart murmur they had heard was because of the IV fluids that they were giving him. Were you giving any of the NSAIDS?? They can most certainly cause a tummy ulcer. Waiting for a positive update .
  16. You've been signed Just the fact that you #1 heard that background music at all was no coincidence and #2 that the song meant something to you and you alone-I'm sure that nobody else even payed attention to it at all. It's the little signs that can really hit home--your own personal sign. Buddy knows how much he's missed however, as hard as this might sound I don't think he misses you because to miss someone is not to see or be around that individual---He'll always be around you. Passing does not break the love bond. How's Kristen?
  17. I think that you're looking to hard. Sometimes we don't notice the little things that are right under our noses. "Signs" don't have to be dramatic things like rainbows, it could a song on the radio, a word on a street sign or even just a smell. Your baby could come to you while you're sleeping when your busy daymind is put on hold. I think the difference between a dream and a visit would be the impact. If you think about it you really don't remember dreams 6 months from now--a visit you will never forget. I have had many visits after my last few pups have passed--they have all happened at different times--some 2 weeks after and some months after. Really feel that you have to be emotionally really to receive them. Big hugs to Kristen, it's hard on them too.
  18. Before I would change foods or start to worry I would repeat the urinalysis. Have the Specific gravitiy re-checked. The Dr just needs a drop a urine and it can be done within 2 mintues. The best sample to submit would be the first pee-pee of the morning. It should be concentrated (something like 1.050 and up).
  19. Thanks for the update. I would have hoped that Terry's b/w had improved. I would think that if Terry was going to respond to the current meds he would have by now. His proteins are still so low. Maybe you should consider a different diet. I would try a hypo-allerengic diet. Think I have mentioned to you before that my guy couldn't tolerate chicken--including eggs or egg protein at all. He's now eating Duck and Potato with extra fiber added. He's still doing VERY well on the Budesonide. Like your dog he just never really improved with the Pred. but right now (his values were as low as your dogs) his TP is 5.4 I have him weaned down to one pill (3mgs) every other day. He took Tylan powder for 8 months and Metronidazole on and off for months too. He also had B-12 injections but, honestly I know he never really would have improved this well w/o the proper medication. Did your vet run a biles acids test yet? If not absolutely suggest that. That's a super test to interpret liver function. Well wishes being sent
  20. Sorry to hear that Terry really hasn't improved all that much. I really feel you should seek out another opinion. Is there a Gastro doc in your area??--How about a cert. internist? I'm confident that my dog was seen by some really awesome Dr.s, however, he really never improved until I found a Board Cert Gastro Dr. (Dr Broussard-Animal Medical Center, NY) He was the Dr that suggested putting my boy on Budesonide--it saved his life. Are you near a University?? What medication is Terry taking now? Thanks for the update--I was thinking of him.
  21. You know it sure looks like a corn to me but, I have never heard of a dog licking the foot because of a corn. Could it be a foreign object embedded into the pad?
  22. Looking for an update--how's Terry??
