  1. I'm just seeing this now. What a very difficult time for you and Dye. :grouphug I hope that you don't have to resort to amputation, but if you need some encouraging words about how well they adapt here are some. Like many others who have posted here, we had to amputate Snickers' front leg due to osteosarcoma. I don't think the vet followed the protocol recommended by OSU (although I gave them the literature!), so she had more bruising than necessary but the overall outcome was a dog who was her "old" self -- jumping, playbowing, running, happy. It is hard emotionally for us to think of it, but dogs bounce back and cope well. Dye's quality of life will be fine. It's a rough couple of weeks post-surgery but once you're through that it's business as usual.

Please update and I'll be thinking positive thoughts for Dye. :hope:hope

  2. Don't regret your decision. You made the right choice for your baby. It was very strong of you to be able to do that for him. Bone cancer is really aggressive and there wasn't any way to improve his situation.

I know how sad you are feeling right now. Time will help make your pain less raw. Give Zoey a big hug.

I'm so sorry you had to experience such a sudden loss. :grouphug:grouphug

Run pain free Darryl. :gh_run I'm sure my girls, Snickers and Cricket, and lots of other greys have already greeted him at the bridge.

  3. Oh. My heart sank when I saw your heading. If it's already spread, you really can't do anything else but pallative care. I wish you strength. Remember he doesn't know he's sick, so cherish your time together. The memories will really help heal you. :grouphug

Do you know about Circle of grey? It's a greyhound cancer support group. Join -- it will really help.

What is the circle of grey? Can you tell me where and what it is? I have such anger right now for the world. He is a sweet innocent (but dumb LOL) dog. He was my 1st greyhound and I am just dumb founded. The 1MG of adivan isn't doing a damn thing for me either.

Greytmonty just posted the COG site. The first day hits you like a ton of bricks. I remember asking if it could possibly be anything else when I heard the diagnosis about Snickers. Be strong for your Darryl. He needs you.

  5. I've had Chloe since she was a pup, and her thighs started balding right around a year old. It seemed to happen when she lost the last of her puppy coat. She's 19 months old now, and the hair on her thighs is regrowing, but I'm thinking she's always going to be a little sparse back there. Tip, our retired racer, came to us with completely bald thighs, but is now getting quite fuzzy. I think it's in self defense of the -45 degree weather we had this winter :lol .

That makes me feel a little better. I have been wondering if she is stressed out over having a new brother, if her food change is bad...she has lost most of her puppy coat, which was very fuzzy. I thought the bald thighs were only something that happened to the racers.

  6. Our 11-month-old puppy Roo, who has never raced, is getting bald patches on her thighs. The only changes in her life are:

    - spay at the end of March

    - new brother Doc about four weeks ago

    - change in food from Nutro lamb & Ricearge breed puppy to Costco puppy (chicken based) she is still eating a little bit of the Nutro until we finish the bag

She was very fuzzy this winter and it seems odd that she has gone from one extreme to another. Do you think I should have her checked at the vet, or is she just a dog who has a sparser coat in summer?

I should also mention that she didn't really like the Nutro and would often just push around the food in her bowl with her nose. She devours the Kirkland chicken & rice.
