  1. My sweet momma dog will become severly hypoglycemic causing her to collapse and seize. This is because of an insulinoma( pancreatic tumor). Even on ultrasound it could not be detected. The only way it was confirmed was with a glucose insulin ratio blood test...We went to her regular vet, cardiologist and even a neurologist trying to find the cause of her seizures. Now with medicine(diazoxide) and small frequent meals we are able to keep her blood sugar levels up.. I also bought a glucometer and check her sugar every so often. I don't know if this is true but... I was told by one vet that if you rub sugar on the gums while they are seizing and they snap out quickly... It's a seizure due to hypoglycemia..(it was true with my ole girl)
  2. It took 11 years for you to find the love you SO deserved. In the end, you were VERY much loved, claiming the hearts of many. Run free with no worries or fears. Run at peace, SWEET girl........
  3. Oh YES!!!! Definately try handfeeding!!!! (My hands stunk for days after hand feeding the stinky canned green tripe.) Dried chicken breasts chews (she lived on those for about a week)
  4. Vanilla Ensure kept Mandy going for a bit...and baby food(at one point I was literally spooning/forcing it her mouth....) Good luck.....
  5. Henry is a donor....He's our Hero....just last month he saved a puppys life. He is so good about donating, as long as I am petting him talking to him he's fine. After a few cookies,he's ready to go home...never any problems.
  6. Mandy, my 12 year old, would collapse on her walks. Sometimes she'd shake her legs like she had pins and needles...other times her legs would buckle and she'd collapse .Sometimes she'd spring right back up and collapse again. She'd become dazed and confused, spacey...sometimes requiring her to be carried home.. Some episodes she'd seize, somtimes small focal like seizures, sometimes grand mal.. ... After visiting a cardiologist and a neurologist, they both could find nothing wrong with her. It turns out she has a pancreatic tumor which causes her to become hypoglycemic... So now, first thing in my head is.....how's the blood sugar levels?
  7. I KNOW exactly what you are going through! Mandy HAS to eat because she will become severely hypoglycemic and seize. For a few days I literally was forcing baby food down.... But now, she will eat baby food, but only certain kinds. Vanilla Ensure has been a LIFE saver, LITERALLY!! Tripe, sometimes.....corned beef hash.... And those dried out chicken breast treats and sometimes dog treats......But for whatever reason she will ONLY eat if hand fed. (Makes feeding the tripe even more gross!!!) Good Luck, I hope you find something that works.... I understand, its emotionally and physically draining....
  8. Thank you for posting here.... Today was the first day since Thursday that Mandy hasn't had any episodes of collapsing or wobbly legs. She is starting to get smaller more frequent feedings. One concern is that she is already FAT!!!! The last thing she needs is extra poundage!!!
  9. I am sorry to admit this but, I find humor in this behavior.....Like Mother like daughter!!!! I feel your pain.. I drove from North Carolina to Florida with Mandy literally tied to the back seat of the car...As I drove away from Project Racing Home she bulldozed her way into the front seat. I had to pull off the road to get that girl under control. To this day she is STILL the WORST car rider.... Anyways...I am glad Grace did well....
  10. Cathie- I am sorry.....Annie was a sweet special momma dog ...I think the word perfection fits her!!! (I lost it on those pictures!)
  11. Been there! My poor Henry would chew his feet until they bled..I tried EVERYTHING. He was MISERABLE...constantly chewing/licking/gnawing..(I put baby socks on him to keep from chewing he'd chew right through those)... We switched foods and tired almost all the over the counter stuff you listed. We went to many many different vet/specialists. Finally they found he did have a yeast infection, but that could have been due to the excessive moisture of his constant chewing/licking. So he was treated for the yeast infection and I still have him on a grain free, fish based food But I believe it's the grass(especially wet grass) I live in S. FLorida where all the grass is treated too...... We had to resort to waterproof booties....After spending $$$$ on different types booties these were the only ones that worked...(size medium) http://www.petco.com/product/6031/Paw-Tect...Protectors.aspx He might look silly walking in his booties but the chewing has stopped and fur has grown back on his poor feet..... Good Luck
  12. Today we had to put Sasha aka "The Sausage" to sleep. She was our 15 year old chihuaua that we adopted 8 years ago. She stopped eating a few days ago and gradually over the past few days got worse. She had been ill for quite some time. But in her day.....The Sausage was a real spitfire. She kept both the greys (85lb'ers) in line. She was definatley the queen of the house. She was the best small dog tester around....When testing other greys I would claim that they are "Sausage safe, I dont know about small dog safe". She was a tough little Sausage. She was very loved and will be very missed... Go Sausage go.. (that's what we would say to get her to run)
  13. My boy, is a grandpup too...
