Hi! We just moved to the Hudson Valley area of NY state a month ago, and think our girl is really missing greyhound play dates with the local greyhound community from back home. She doesn’t really care for other dogs truth be told, but she seems to enjoy playing with other greyhounds.

Is there anyone in this area who would be open to occasional play dates or has any suggestions for places to take our girl for fun? The local dog parks scare us a bit since we’ve had multiple neighbors tell us their dogs have been attacked there.

    Thanks for any tips!

We just moved FROM the Hudson Valley.  Sadly, there are no close greyhound adoption groups (and one sorta close one you don't want to deal with).  I did make a greyhound friend via this very forum so good luck.

By the way Mercury said the MidHudson Bridge is delicious.

Elizabeth, this is a good cooling coat. I've met the makers at several events and safety is a priority. https://www.etsy.com/shop/CouchPotatoDogKnits?ref=hdr_shop_menu&fbclid=IwAR2UrG7_eJCfGtVbIUWK7WmRzXzevmvHwqrlwmCH4rj39pkA2wK9w0Ucs-4&section_id=21699597

I saw that one (you had posted it in another thread).  I'm still concerned that anything that relies of evaporation won't work in our humidity.

  3. I've read all the threads on heat management that I could find (including mentions of our beloved Rocket  in the desert) but still have a few questions regarding cooling coats.

It's early June at 79 degrees at 7 a.m.  We keep our walks early and stay on sidewalks or grass avoiding pavement whenever possible.  After a 30-40 minute walk, Jupiter seems to cool down within 10-15 minutes (we delay breakfast until he's cool).  Morning's will only get hotter so I'm considering a cooling coat.  But... physics.  The humidity here ranges from 95-1000% ;) .   I don't think a wet coat will work as it won't evaporate.

I'm happy for all suggestions for other types of cool coats or other products.  (Yes, yes, we will be having a discussion of leather boots for hot pavements).  Thanks in advance

It was kind of funny hearing the vet tech panic a little trying to get Rowan out of the crate to go home.  In typical greyhound fashion, he was sleeping and didn't see any reason to leave his comfy nest.

A solid fact about greyhounds:  They have their priorities.  :hehe

And duck tape the cupboard shut.

My thought was to hide all the treats except that day's allotment.

Unjustifiably pissed?  Nope. Not at all.  If all communication is via text or note, how about something like, "This treat situation is out of control.  If you cannot abide by my express orders to give only X treats per day, I will have to find a new walker".  It sounds harsh but you have done about all you can do at this point.
