  1. Let them think you're nuts.......it'll give them something to talk about. Onwards and upwards. Wishing you lots of progress; please keep us updated!
  2. I just wanted to say I empathize with you, as we've adopted our girl only one month ago and have also hit a bump in the road. I know what you mean about the crate thing. We too made the mistake of putting her in it when leaving the house and at bed, and now she refuses to go in it at all. I am sitting on the fence right now about whether to crate or not. If we do decide to give it another shot, I know we have to first work on turning her aversion for it around before she will feel safe and comfortable in it. I think that is why someone mentioned giving Toley his meals in his crate, as well as his treats. Whatever you decide, try to stay calm when working with him. Our Bonnie sure does know when I start to feel frustrated, so paying close attention to how I feel is critical if I want to make any progress with her. If it helps, remember there are many of us struggling along with you. Good Luck!
  3. I can understand why you'd question that; but it was explained to me that the drug is wide spectrum, knocking out the more common little buggers that are responsible for uti's. It's best to start battle with a bacterial infection asap. I trust my vet. Been going to him for many years and I just happened to luck out, being a new grey owner, as he's described as being "greyhound savvy" in the Candian grey community and is the chief vet for one of our major greyhound adoption groups.
  4. I took Bonnie and a urine sample to the vet today. When he palpated her bladder, she yelped. He said that with the small amount of pressure exerted in examining her, it's likely she has an infection; either that or she's a big wimp. She's been prescribed an oral antibiotic and also gave a blood sample to either rule out or confirm the bacterial type. A baseline reading of her blood values was started for future comparisons should infection be ruled out. I should receive the results of the urinalysis tomorrow.
  5. Thanks everyone, I'll be calling the vet tomorrow to rule out a medical issue, but if I were to guess, I'm leaning towards marking, whether it be anxious or otherwise, as she is able to hold her urine from 9:30 pm to 5:30 am without difficulty. On a walk, it seems as though she is not fully emptying her bladder all at once, as if she is trying to make it last another 3 squats, lol. Is this normal or just my girl's quirkiness?
  6. We have had our Bonnie for close to 3 weeks now. She came straight from the track, and we were pleasantly surprised with house-training, as she hadn't had an in-home accident since Christmas Day. But we're stumped as to why she would have accidents following her walk. Yesterday, I took her out for a 1/2 hr. She always pees 3 or 4 times and then we go back home. But Instead of going home, we went to Petsmart. As soon as we entered the store, she had her first accident, followed closely by the 2nd approx. 10 minutes later. The same scenario happened today. I took her for a walk this morning prior to meeting a friend, and she did her usual 3-4 pees. We hopped in the car and went to my friend's, arriving at her building about 20 minutes later. Upon arrival, I walked her around the complex, not wanting a repeat from the day before, and she promptly peed twice. Thinking all would be well, we went up to her apartment, but lo and behold, 10 minutes after our arrival, she peed on my friend's carpet. Has anyone else experienced this? Do you think this could be stress, related to her new life, or could she simply be marking or anxious about new territory? Or maybe we should have her checked for a UTI? Thanks for your input!
  7. Bonnie may as well be invisible as far as Peewee's concerned. I wonder if she has kitty dementia; as she'll step over Bonnie's head or walk across her bed while she's sleeping. If I'm busy and can't have my full attention on them, Bonnie wears her muzzle. Bonnie on the other hand, found Peewee quite interesting initially, but within a week, no longer perked up when she entered the room.
  8. Dec. 20, 2012: Our Bonnie's Gotcha Day!

  9. We signed the papers yesterday! We are very lucky to have adopted such a great little girl. We named her Bonnie, to go with her new dad, who's name is Clyde. She came to us from Daytona on Dec. 20th. She now climbs stairs and I think it's safe to say she's house trained; having had no accidents for about 5 days now. During her career, her name was Flying Kina, and she won 11 of her 76 races. She's a real social butterfly, with great doggy manners, and she loves meeting everyone she encounters. She gets super excited when she sees small children, and she will shimmy and spin her tail like a propeller whenever they approach her. We saw her run for the first time today, and I must say, it's a sight to behold. As an added bonus, all these walks have lost me 4 lbs., unheard of for me at the holidays! Anyway, I just wanted to introduce her, and show her off to everyone. We're over the moon to be new parents again. Happy New Year Everyone!
  10. I went to a sporting goods store but was confused about which animal call to get... Which is the right one? I pm'd this lady, and she believes that she bought the rabbit one.

  12. Are there any GT Canucks out there who have bought their squawker in Canada? Google only gave me a Canadian store that sells electronic versions. I'd like to get mine here, if they're available, but if not, could anyone recommend a good site to purchase one?
  13. Welcome Sard! I've got a weakness for the black boys too and "jolly" is a perfect word for that lovely mug of his. Goose is a really cute name too~~did you name him? The people on this forum are very knowledgeable and helpful; you'll love it here!

  15. Just wanted to say that reading your post made me smile, especially the part about feeling your grey's nose nudge you. We've been wanting one for about 2 yrs., but we have a 20 year old cat that I feel is too old to handle the stress of sharing her home, so for now we will wait until the time is right. But I am so looking forward to having a needlenose nudge me. Congratulations!
