  1. I'm glad to hear he's back home and resting. Hopefully he will feel better in the morning. Let me know if you need anything.
  2. Lisa, I'm sorry to hear Roscoe isn't feeling well. If he's still not drinking anything and his gums are still pale I'd give a call to your vet's just to be on the safe side. They may want to see him tomorrow if he's still not eating or drinking anything. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
  3. He looks great Kyle. And happy to be home. The incision looks really good to. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery!
  4. Kyle, I am so sorry to hear this. Charlie is such a wonderful boy. I'll be praying that it was caught in time. Just look at Marc & Barbara's boy, Beast. He had cancer in his front leg and is now post amputation going on 8 months and all is clear. There is certainly hope out there. Keeping you and Lynn in my thoughts and prayers. Cassie, Ranger & Tracy
  5. Hi from Virginia Beach. My first grey was a seizure dog too. His seizures were completely controlled with Phenobarbitol so it can be managed. Hope everything is okay with Larry.
  6. What a pretty girl. Welcome to GT from Virginia Beach!
  7. My female sits but she's on the smaller side. She will also give me her paw when I say "shake". My boy won't sit but he does "down" and "stay" on command.
  8. My first grey was a real nester too. He'd spend allot of time digging, fluffing and dragging his bed all over the living room till he had it just right. It was hysterical to watch. He was also fond of going upstairs and getting on my bed and taking the comforter, sheets and pillows and making a huge pile in the middle to sleep in.
  9. That's so hard when they start getting older. My Tracy will be 13 this week and she is definitely showing her age. She was just diagnosed with LP and the terrible heat we've been having in Virginia Beach lately is really taking a toll on her. Her back legs are also getting weaker so she pretty much just goes out to do her business and then it's back in the house. But she is still a very happy girl. We love them so much and it is heartbreaking to see them getting older and weaker. I just know that we are giving them all the love we can.
  10. Welcome from Virginia Beach. I have a 6 year old boy and a soon to be 13 year old girl. They are the BEST dogs ever and I'll never have any other breed.
  11. My first grey had been in a home before and was used to going potty in a yard. I live in a townhome with no yard so he had to learn to potty on a lead. I realized quickly that being on a 6' lead wasn't going to work as he kept trying to get farther away from me to potty. I bought a 15' lead which worked perfectly. He was able to get far enough away to potty and over about a three week period I kept bringing him closer until he was going potty on the normal 6' lead. Is it possible for you to walk her separately and on a longer lead to see if she'll potty? Hopefully you can help her learn to potty on lead so that her options for adoption aren't limited to only those who have a yard. Good luck.
  12. He's very handsome! Welcome from Virginia Beach.
  13. Oh my gosh! That looks really painful. But it also looks like it's starting to heal up. Brown Recluse are a really nasty spider. A friend of mine was bitten a few years ago and her wound looked equally as bad as this and took a long time to heal up. I hope he feels better soon.
  14. My first greyhound was a seizure dog. He had his first seizure about two months after I got him. When I took him to the vet they asked me to document the frequency and lengths of any seizures he had. They didn't want to put him on meds unless the seizures became more frequent. The seizures came about every 4-6 weeks and were varying degress of severity. It so happened that the week before he was scheduled to go back to the vet he had a severe Grand Mal seizure that wound up putting him in the ER for three days. His temp had spiked to 108 and the ER vets worked hard to save him. I was told that he would very likely have brain damage from the high temperature and would probably never "be right again". Instead of letting him go to the bridge I told them to do everything possible to help him and they did. After three days I brought him home and he began twice daily doses of the Phenobarbytol. Once he began the meds he never had another seizure. Unfortunately one of the side effects is possible liver issues and after 5 years on the medication he succumbed to liver failure. I know there are others on this forum who have dealt with seizures and who will have much more detailed information they can give you. There are also previous threads on this subject that you could look for. Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you and your pup.
  15. Hi and welcome to GT! You didn't say if you've had dogs before. If you have then I agree with the suggestions about talking to your local group. With the economy over the last year there have been unfortunate situations where people just simply couldn't afford to keep their dogs any longer. In that case if you wanted to get a "bonded pair" starting with two might not be so challenging. But if you start out with a hound straight from the track or one that's only been in foster for a short time then I'd start with just one. I'd always had dogs before but never a greyhound and even though my first hound was a bounce I was glad that I started with just him. It gave me time to bond with him and just take in all the wonderful "quirks" a greyhound can have. Within 6 months I adopted a female that had also been a bounce and Rowdy was much happier having another dog in the house. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
  16. My weekdays look like this: 6:30 am - wake up, shower and get ready for work 7:15 am - 20 minute walk and potty then breakfast 7:45 am - leave for work 12:30 pm - home for lunch and a short 10 minute walk and potty 1:15 pm - back to work 5:30 pm - home from work and a 20 minute walk and potty the dinner 7:30 pm - short walk and potty 10:30 pm - quick potty and bed time Weekends are up at 7:00 am for 20 minute walk and potty Breakfast Rest of the day is pretty much no schedule just walks and potty whenever the need arises or we get bored.
  17. Wow! What a gorgeous girl. Welcome from Virginia Beach.
  18. I work during the week but I'm lucky to live close enough that I can come home every day at lunch to walk my two and spend a little time with them. I am with them after 5:00 every night and all weekend. Most of my "off work" activities are Greyhound related so they come with me. I love to go places where I can take them with me.
  19. Welcome from Virginia.
  20. I walk both mine together on 6' leads and hold them both with my right hand. I've taught "leave it" to both dogs and I'm always alert on walks since we have lots of squirrels where I live. It really didn't take them long to catch on and now even though their ears go up when they see a squirrel they no longer try to lunge after it.
  21. Have you taken Aaron out to places like PetSmart where he would experience the sights and sounds typical at a meet & greet? That might give you an idea of how he would act seeing other dogs and how he deals with the noises and motion of a busy store. And I agree with Momofevie. If you adopted through a group then talk with them about visiting during one of their regular meet & greets. That way you could see how Aaron does without being obligated to be there the whole time.
  22. I'm in a 1,000 sq. foot townhouse with two greys and no fenced yard. Our schedule is out for a 20-30 minute walk at 7:00 then breakfast and I'm off to work. I come home at noon for a short walk 10-15 minutes then back to work. Home at 5:30 for another short walk 10-15 minutes then they get dinner. Around 7:30 they get a longer walk, about 30 minutes then they settle down till 10:00 for a quick last potty and then bed. The weekends are anything goes depending on what we have going on. It's pretty easy and I've had 4 greys over the last few years and they've all settled in to this routine pretty easily. It probably won't be too hard for you to find a routine that works for you. Good luck.
  23. Any chance it could be an absessed (sp?) tooth? I don't know how to read x-rays so I couldn't tell if that might be the cause of the swelling. Is it me or do his eyes look allot better than in the earlier photo?
  24. Hey Lisa, Just read through all the thread. If the swelling has gone done by 50% since receiving the antibiotics then I'm praying it is just an infection that is clearing up. Call me if you need me. I'm only about 10 minutes away and can be there quickly if you need me. Keep me posted and I'll keep praying that Roscoe is well soon. Cassie
