  1. Welcome from another Pa person in SEPA. What beautiful hounds, though I'm sorry to hear about Bullet. Your daughter is adorable too! All blondies!
  2. Hi, from the other side of the state!
  3. Welcome to GT from PA! Having Barney sleep happily downstairs isn't such a bad thing. My husband (not a dog person) took 18 years to decide to find out what he's been missing all this time. He also happens to be a light sleeper. So, when Ringo moved in and came up to our bedroom that first night, he laid right down on his bed and began a loooonnnnggggg bath. When he was finally done and we were just drfting off to sleep, it was time to get up, stretch and shake out. Even though his ears aren't very long, they do slap loudly when he shakes his head. Oh, then there was the most foul gas ever as his sensitive digestive system worked on the "cat treats" he found in the litterbox. Have you ever been "farted awake" by a silent but deadly. Needless to say, that is all behind us now and we are all sleeping soundly in the same room. Ringo has earned the nickname "Slappy" though
  4. If Seabiscuit was thoroughbred then Sydney is a greyhound. As a ...uh, vertically challenged 2-legger, I say there's nothing wrong with legs that are a bit shorter than average. She's beautiful too, btw.
  5. She's beautiful and your post exudes your affection for her. Maybe it IS a match made in heaven.
  6. We will be taking a family vacation to Great Smoky Mtn National Park April 4-11. We will be bringing Ringo, our cat friendly, kid friendly greyhound with us. We have rented a pet friendly 3 bdroom cabin in Gatlinburg, TN and will bring Ringo along as much as possible, but I expect that there will be many instances when he has to stay at the cabin. I'm wondering if there is anyone in the Gatlinburg area who might be willing to greysit for several hours during the day on those days when our plans aren't dog friendly. If not, any recommendations for good doggie daycare that would be preferable to leaving Ringo home alone? He is used to staying home alone from 8:30-3:00 every weekday when we are at work, till my son gets home from school. He is confined to the kitchen at those times, but doesn't mind being crated if necessary. I just thought it would be nicer than leaving him alone in a new place. If that is the only alternative, then we'll arrange our plans so he isn't left for more than 3-4 hours at a time (and not until we've been there for a few days.)
  7. Another welcome from Pennsylvania! Hobbes is a great looking guy. He reminds me of Ringo, also a red brindle with ETS Your story also sounds a lot like mine (Say hello, hello, hello to Ringo) I had a wonderful cat named Hobbes for about 16 years. We adopted him, along with his brother Calvin. Welcom to GT. I'm relatively new on here as well and have found it so welcoming and helpful. I'm also planning to attend GiG with my family. Maybe we'll see you there.
  8. I don't know what's more captivating, her ears or her eyes. Like everyone else, I just said "wow!" when I looked at her picture. I too live in a house full of guys. Besides DH, and my new boy Ringo, I have two sons and two male cats. I'm sure if I new how to check, I'd find that the three fish are male too.
  9. Welcome from SEPA. They're worth the wait (as you already know from Dash.) I waited 18 years till my hubby came around and my son's were old enough.
  10. What handsome boys! Hopefully they both sllep in
  11. Welcome from another newbie in PA. We are recnet adopters, having adopted Ringo (PAK Sgt Pepper) just after Thanksgiving. We have two cats as well and happily all are living well together. Looking forward to seeing pics of your menagerie.
  12. I recognize those photos and the videos as well. The photos are fantastic! Your shots? (My husband and I are avid nature photographers. But tht's discussion topic for a different forum altogether) I watched all of the videos while we were awaiting Ringo's arrival, trying to learn a little about his history. Based on the Greyhound Database and your website, I assumed that Ringo hadn't raced since 5/16/07. I guessed that he had too much propensity to go wide in the turns (occasionally taking out other dogs in the process) so you stopped racing him. But it sounds like he was still racing but they didn't make it into the database. Not that it really matters now since his best race was into our hearts. I can vouch for "truly sweet and special." He most certainly is!
  13. Cathie, Jenn, Dione and Marilyn, Thanks again for for all you have done for Ringo and for all the hounds you care for and place in forever homes. I really appreciate the warm welcome on GT as well. Whenever people ask about Ringo's race and pre-retirement life, I have said that he only raced for a short while but it really seemed to me that, based on his great physical shape and his laid-back demeanor, he was very well cared for before making the trip up. Now I know how right I was! Hubby really likes him a lot (dare I say loves him ) as he frequently will pet him and kiss his beautiful forehead. He's just not as confident and laid back (he's and engineer after all ) interacting with Ringo as I am, but getting better every day. I even had Eddie over for a play date with Ringo and they had a great time. I was secretly hoping that, seeing how much Ringo enjoyed the company of another grey, my husband would suggest we take Eddie too. I haven't specifically brought it up yet, but I haven't abandoned the idea yet either. I do have to admit that I have my own second thoughts about two, when I consider some of the things that we might not be able to do with them if we have two, including taking them with us when we visit family or go on vacation (ie, we couldn't fit 4 people, 2 dogs and luggage all in the van.) I'd also love to compare some Ringo notes as I work on ironing out the minor wrinkles of our new lives together, such as farts that could gag a maggot, coprophagia and still soft stools (a recent fecal was negative and after Drontal Plus, there are no more signs of tapeworm.) I have more info in this post I made on the nutrition page. Greyhound Gas I'm really glad to have "found" you on GT Take care!
  14. Thanks for the tip. We haven't been to Gettysburg yet and the boys would really enjoy it. Last October, while we were still waiting to be matched, we took the ride down to Dewey for a day at Reach the Beach. It was geyt!
  15. Ringo has "graduated" from his 48" crate, for the most part. When we are at work, he is gated in the kitchen and he has run of the house when we are home (but we still have to be able to keep an eye on him. Yesterday he left a pile on my dining room oriental rug when I was out scooping the backyard . At night, he sleeps on his bed on the floor in our bedroom. We only use the crate now if he refuses to go out for his turnout before we go to work.
  16. Hello from West Chester, PA! It was anything but a "Black" Friday when Ringo (aka Sgt Pepper) moved in with us on November 28. I grew up with an afghan Hound who was a wonderful marshmallow. I have loved dogs all my life, but somehow managed to marry a guy who was NOT a "dog person." Cats yes, dogs. Well, that explains the eighteen years. About 12 years ago, I met my first greyhound. His personality and temperment reminded me so much of my afghan that I decided then that if I could ever convince my husband to get a dog, it would be a greyhound. Well, this past summer he agreed (I guess I hounded him enough ) and I made sure he really meant it. Knowing what a big step this was for all of us, I wanted to be sure was really agreeing to this. We worked with the greyt folks at GAFNE who were very selective about finding the right grey for us. We have two cats, two kids (7 & 11) and as much as I would have loved a pair, could only adopt one. All I can say is that Ringo was worth the wait. He is 3 1/2, and so sweet and so laid back. He has won over EVERYONE in our house. As soon as I figure out how to attach pictures, I'll post them!
