  1. Both the boys have really dry skin right now with the winter waether. What can I give them to help with the flakey skin?
  2. Poor Alan, hugs to you. Rusty is having issues with rear leg weakness too. It's what caused him to fall down the basement steps that resulted in a broken leg. Hopefully you will feel better soon.

    Elwood Memorial

I am so sorry to hear about Elwood and that this did not have the happy ending that everyone was hoping for, but he is free to be with the angles. Run free sweet Elwood. You will be missed by many that you didn't even know.
  4. He seems to be doing better tonight. He's sleeing a lot though. He's still trying to figure out how to walk with the splint.
  5. He wouldn't have gone the stairs if I would have been to work as usual. I stayed home because I was sick and my son had off of school for the cold weather. I went down to the basement office to check email and he wanted to come down too. Thank you everyone for your well wishes. I appreciate it.
  6. I went to the basement office yesterday morning to check email. The next thing I heard was a few thumps and the GSOD. Rusty was at the bottom screaming and holding his front leg up. I calm him down and DH carried him back upstairs. He would not walk on it at all. Called the vet she, wants him to come in for x-rays. She wants to rule out tumors and cancer (he is 13). We couldn't get in until 4:30. so my poor boy limped around never putting any weight on the leg. Get to vet. Good news, no cancer. Bad news, his leg is broke. He is in a splint for 6 weeks. This couldn't have happened in June, he had to do it in January when the temp is -16 this morning.
  7. Hi, from totally next door in Oconomowoc
  8. I'm glad Alan is feeling better. (He looks just like my Rusty).

    Radar Doyle

Bev, I'm so sorry. They are together again keeping each other company. Hugs to you and your family.
  11. Solo's outside toe is removed all the way to his foot. He had it done before I even got him.
  12. I am so sorry. His memories will live forever in your heart. Run free sweet Wallace...
  13. Oh Cindy this got me crying again. Run free sweet Thunder. We miss you. Hugs from me and Rusty and Solo.
  14. This sounds similar to something Rusty has had in the past. Every now and then, he will somehow hurt his neck. I know it happens because he will pace and pace and pace, and has a hard time laying down. He also can't move his head up very high. He's been prescribed some kind of medication, I can't think of it right now, I believe a steroid, and that usually helps within a day.
  15. I heard Rusty bark for the first time in months the other night. I have never heard Solo bark in the four years we have had him.
  16. I'm so sorry to hear about Dee. I just got back on GT not too long ago. I remember when you got Oscar. I didn't realize he was gone too. I'm sorry about that alo. But now they are together, running and playing together. I'm glad that you were able to be with her when she passed. Run free Dee and run free Oscar.
  17. Yes, I do remember you as Aria's mom. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. Run free sweet Aria.
  18. I did three treatments of Epsom salt since last night after work. I think it stings a little, he kept pulling his foot away. He had his muzzle on all night last night and boy did I get the Stink Eye. He had an appointment with the vet this morning and he said it is starting to get a little better, but he needs to wear a lamp shade collar. The vet said it had a slight odor and so he cleaned it out again with some kind of medicated solution, which he sent me home with some. I need to do that at least once a day. We go back in again on Monday for another look. I hope this is the last one.
  19. No, it won't burn, just make sure it's well diluted. The only thing that will burn is if the water is too hot. Let us know how you make out. I will, I'm going to Walgreens right after work to get some.
  20. I have never used Epsom salt before. Will it burn?
  21. How much Epsom salt do I use, how often do I soak and for how long? I feel bad for the poor old guy, I want his owie to heal.
  22. Thanks, I was wondering about epsom salt. But how do I keep it from bleeding?
  23. About three weeks ago I posted about Rusty's paw, he had five stitches put in between his two toes on his back paw. Well, anyway, I have had the hardest time with this. No matter how much a I bandage and cover with platistic wrap (to keep the bandage dry when he goes out in the wet grass) and socks, he manages to chew through everything. Even eating some of the bandages. Tomorrow will be the third time I am taking him in to have his foot looked at. Last week the vet took out three of the stitches and said it needed to be kept dry and bandaged. He was very good about it all weekend while I was home. Yesterday, I go back to work and when I came home at lunch to check on him, he had chewed through the sock, the plastic, and the bandage. I did the process all over again and he was actually a good boy by the time I got home. So I thought I would let it air out for the evening since I was home and could watch him closely for licking. After about a half hour, he was bleeding all over again. I wrap it up again and out came the lamp shade collar which happens to be a little too big for his skinny head. I just don't know what I can do to help it start healing. I'm running out of patience and money.
  24. I did go to the vet on Tuesday actually for the tear between his toes that Solo gave him (another post). Anyway, I told the vet all about his panting and she listened to his heart and lungs. She said they sounded great and the next step would be to run blood tests. This exam was not done by his regular vet, but a different one. He will be seeing his regular vet very soon for a dental so he will have blood work done then and I am going to have that vet run the tests. He doesn't seem to be as bad this week.
  25. I have been dealing with the panting issue also. I had my boy, who is almost 13, to the vet this morning for something else (cut toe) and she said his heart sounded fine. What did your vet do to diagnosis his congestive heart failure?
