  1. Thank you so much for remembering Daniel. This boy truly was living a life in hell. He fought so hard as did the wonderful people caring for him. He had the best mom in the world waiting for him, counting the days till he could come home.

Please keep Eileen in your hearts, as hers is shattered with what happened today, the Leish and the Babesia got the best of him, and Tina, Mandy, and Andrea, his rescuers who held him close as he left this world. He is loved by so many from all over the world.

God speed my brother, every Angel in heaven will now care for you until you one day, will get to meet your mom

  2. Oh Kyle,

I truly am sorry. When it happens sudden like this, out of the blue, it just makes it so much more heartbreaking. Charlie showed him the way so he didn't feel scared or alone, and I would like to think Ekko being the mom she was, helped as well. :beatheart

  3. Thank you everyone, so many of you have been such a big part of our life. I think I am so shocked with this particular loss because it always seemed that nothing was going to get her.

Most of her antics, as strange as they were, would just make me laugh and often wonder what in the world would make a dog even think of doing some of the things she would do. But then there were some things that were dangerous, most of which I never told anyone because they would wonder if I was capable to keep her safe.

One day I put 1lb of dough in the oven to rise, I put it in the oven just to keep it away from her because I knew better...no place seemed to be safe so I thought I out smarted her. Big mistake...I went downstairs to put clothes in the dryer and came right back up.

Ekko had opened the oven, took the dough out and ate the whole pound. In a panic I called the e-vet right away, I thought sure this was the antic that would do her in. But nope...didn't even bother her.I never would have imagined she was capable of opening that oven door, it's pretty heavy.

So, I made the mistake of developing the attitude that nothing was ever going to happen to her. To see her so helpless was a feeling I can't even explain.

All I do know is the bridge better watch out because Ekko will test the patience of a saint!

  4. Oh sweet mama Claudia..

I am so very sorry to see this.

The little fuzzy girl that I thought would live forever, now gone.

The beautiful girl that kept you on your toes all these years with her unending

    antics and entertaining ways.

Such a tragic loss for you, Lenny, Wayne and Sprinkles.

Maybe she'll run into a sweet little red and white girl that you were willing to open up your

heart and home to a few years back when she so desperately needed it.

Hugs to you my friend from afar.

Hold that little girl's memory tucked deeply in your heart and she'll be your guardian angel

    from this day on.

    So very sorry mama.

    I remember :beatheart

  5. Today, Ekko suffered a massive seizure which triggered a massive stroke and we had to say goodbye. Life will never be the same without her with us.

After surviving a life of hell, the state of California finally stepped up and facilitated Ekko's rescue. Ekko had been a mom over and over again until she was 10 years old, and at 10(we're estimating but according to my vet, she was 10) life began.

Ekko was bigger than life, a force to be reckoned with, and at the same time, the most gentle and sweetest hound I was ever blessed to live with. Her antics were like none I had ever seen before, she took pictures off the walls, opened the refrig and helped herself, opened the oven, couldn't resist paper of any kind. And there was never a roll of toilet paper or a book allowed in sight. I swore she would put me in the ground with some of the things she would do.

    She just couldn't help herself

I was grateful that I was here when it happened and was able to hold her and comfort her because she was clearly afraid and had no idea what was happening. I am so grateful to my sister and my BIL who rushed over and helped me get her to the car and I took her over to the e-vet which is where I had to say goodbye.

I held her and told her how much we all loved her and told her her brothers and sisters would be there to greet her until we can all be reunited once again. I told her I would take good care of little Sprinkles because I swear she thought Sprinkles was her own.

Ekko leaves quite a legacy. Here are some of my favorite pictures of my girl ♥

Her first picture after we arrived here....we're not in the desert anymore!

And where ever she was in the house, you would find Sprinkles always close

I love you Ekko, please keep watch

  6. Wayne(who is 12) has OA and his tarsal joints are shot. Rimadyl and Tramadol have helped him over the past several years. Luckily neither drug bothers his stomach but if that were the case, I would use Pepcid(20mg) before giving the drugs.

There are stronger drugs out there and I would discuss it with your vet if the Rimadyl is no longer helping him. You can also up the mg on the Rimadyl and the Tramadol and maybe ask the vet for Cerenia for his stomach or Carafate

Wishing you and your handsome boy the best, I know how tough this is

  7. It occurs to me to mention that Spencer was only on 1/8 tsp/day when we experimented with stopping it. So I don't know how that compares to what Lenny's taking. If it's substantially more, you could always taper him off over the course of a week or two.

He's on 1/8tsp twice a day which is what the e-vet suggested on one of our trips there

  8. Not saying what you should do or think about tylosin. But fwiw, Spencer has been on it for three years for his IBD. It seems very mild and it was the last piece of the puzzle when it came to getting his poop in a group. But compared to Flagyl and budesonide, and the antibiotics he was on for SIBO, tylosin is a very mild thing. So if you do have to put him back on it long term, I don't think you need to worry much about side effects. Of course, it's so darned bitter that we put it in capsules before administering it!

Thank you. I'm putting it in gel caps as well because nothing was hiding that taste

  9. We just stopped, but Spencer's poop is better with it, so we started again. And with it he doesn't need to go back on metronidazole very often.

What are you using it for, and what does your vet say? Or did you get it elsewhere?

Got it elsewhere, and am using it for Lenny's Colitis. He's finally doing well with his new food and a probiotic twice a day along with the Tylan, but I'm not totally comfortable keeping him on Tylan long term so I wanted to see how he does off it but wasn't sure of the best way to do that.

Flagyl helped but after a week off it, his stools were soft again

  10. We know of a hound with really bad HGE. Nothing worked until they tried Precise Sensicare. He hasn't had any problems in over a year. Also know of a couple other hounds on it for various stomach issues and the results have been good.

I just bought it to deal with a stomach issue that Rocket is having, but still have him on a bland diet of chicken and rice. He's not quite ready for kibble yet.

    Hope Lenny feels better soon.

Thank you! I've seen that product in Ca but not sure about here, but will check

It can be hard to find locally without having your store order it in. Unfortunately Precise seems to have large gaps in store distrubution around the country. I normally feed their Precise Foundation and have to either special order it at the feed store, or pick it up when I go to indy, about 120 miles away.

I ordered the Sensicare from Wag.comand it arrived in 2 days. Best packaging I've ever seen on a dog food shipment. Wag seems to have it's distribution outsourced to a large logistics company with product staged around the country to meet their 2 day shipping commitment. Very good site to deal with.

Thank you so much for posting about Wag.com. Their price for the Wellness Core is $20.00 per bag cheaper than Petsmart, free shipping and it will be here tomorrow. Totally amazing!

I went with the Wellness Core reduced fat on the suggestion of Jean Dodds who also said the Precise is an excellent food as well.

    So, thank you!

  12. Lenny is having issues with Colitis, and for the next 4 days, he's on a very bland home cooked diet as well as meds but I will have to slowly reintroduce him to his normal diet which I am not sure was the cause of his issue.

I am thinking that if I have to change his food, it would be best to ask here for your recommendation on a commercial food.

I just ordered the Tylan powder which I will use as well

    Thank you for your help
