Oh- I'm so sorry Robin- I'm sure she was very loved and Ken and you were lucky to be able to spend so much time with her.
  2. Nate left us several years ago. His gotcha day was yesterday- like his birthday and the day we lost him- these are days I always remember with a little sadness and always grateful I got to spend even a short time with him.
  3. Thanks everyone. He was our first and will always have that place in our hearts.
  4. Hard to believe so much time has passed since Nate, our first greyhound, walked into our home and hearts. For Nate it was love at first sight. He picked us and he was right. He was my heart and soul. I always knew when he was happy, sad, needed something and when he got cancer I knew it was there...somewhere...before he showed any signs. He taught me so much over the years. He is the reason we started feeding our dog raw. We learned how much fun it could be to train your dog, we got back into the woods for long hikes, we met some many wonderful people. He slept with us every night, starting the night at the bottom of the bed and I would wake up every morning with his head on my shoulder. We witnessed the thrill of watching a greyhound run for the joy of it- he was a dog who loved to race. When we did play group he would howl if he wasn't out for his run- even if he just finished running 6 fast laps of the ball field. As someone once said to me- "that Nate- he sure loves to run". He is the reason we live with three greyhounds now and he is the reason that so many people who thought they wanted little female greyhounds changed their minds and requested a dog like Nate after we did our home visit with them. We miss him everyday.

Oh- poor puppy- poor you. He is out of pain now and he knows how much you love him. My deepest sympathies to you and your family.
  6. Another possibility is bacterial infection- How is he doing? How long has it been? Is it improving?

    Bones

I'm so sorry, Shawn. It is heart breaking that we only get them for a short time but it is also among the the wonderful things to be able to love a dog.
  8. Nate has his removed. Chloe, Benson and Polly all have theirs. I voted no problem despite Polly pulling out her nail shortly after she came home. As someone had mentioned, I also think they help support the leg and the dogs do use them when running and turning. I have noticed that more people running amateur racing events wrap their dogs' dew claws. This protects the dew claw but also protects the pads when stopping. I would not consider removing an adults dogs dew claw unless there was an issue anymore than I would consider removing one of their other toes. It is not a simple procedure on an adult dog.
  9. What a happy ending for such a beautiful girl- to have found a home to nuture and care for her. I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful girl.
  10. Oh- such a beautiful boy! Im sure he will be missed. I think my Polly was bred to him or perhaps it was her sister Florence. He will live on in all his beautiful pups out there. Thank you for giving him a couch to love!

    Sad News

Oh, that's so terribly sad for all those left behind. Susan will be greatly missed by all who knew her, even those of us who only knew her as a presense on our screen. My deepest sympathies to Ken, the hounds and the family.
  13. Annette Crosbie has 4 not so long ago She also insisted that they appear in Calendar Girls with her.
  14. When the dogs were young we walked a short am walk and a longer afterwork walk. I would walk them about 3 miles, meet a friend and they would run at the park and then we would walk another mile home. It made for very mellow dogs in the house! These days we try to get out for an hour each afternoon, when it gets warmer we also do an am walk for 20 minutes. On weekends we try to get them out for longer more interesting walks- beach, woods or other fun new spots. Chloe is almost 11, Benson and Paulie are 7- the younger ones would prefer more activity I'm sure.

    Ivey

It's been a rough year end- She's a beautiful girl who gets to run free again. The hard part is being left behind.
  16. My heart is breaking for you all. She is now free of apin and running with her friends who went on before her.
  17. Oh Deb- I'm so sorry. I've "known" Booker for years through NG and he will be missed. Please know that some of the best dogs that ever graced a couch are there to show him around. Big hugs to you and your family.
  18. Raw fed dogs- no bad breath. In fact I once had a friend comment that he didn't trust a dog that didn't have dog breath as my boy was breathing in his face

    Trish

I will miss our little spooky girl. I remember having to hide so that she would leave her run to go outside. Over time I was allowed to be out when she would head to play outside. I remember her running and playing with her room mate out in the yard- tossing toys, laying in the mud, loving being a dog. I would often watch her from the door. On poop patrol she would sometime to a pass by. Run free and safely Trish- we will all miss you.
  20. I'm so sorry Dianne. It is such a shock to lose a pup so quickly. You did everything you could- there are some things we cannot control. I'm sure his soul is running free with all the other wonderful greyhounds that passed on before him. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts.
  21. I'm so sorry Pam. I cannot even imagine your pain right now. You and the pups will be in our thoughts.
  22. I'm so sorry for your loss Jeff.
  23. How did they determine it was a tear? Is it a full tear? Nate had a partial tear of his ACL and we treated it with rest and homeopathy. It took several weeks of rest and onlead walking to rehab the injury but he had a full recovery and was able to do the rather daunting and steep stair in our newly purchased house for a year before we lost him to cancer.
  24. I'm not angry about losing Nate- I know that they will all leave us before we are ready to see them go. I miss him terribly- we lost him over a year ago. I like to think he is still nearby and he will always be in our hearts.
  25. Amazing what they do to make up feel a little better and miss them a little less. Scully is such a lucky hound to have found you guys to share his life with and I'm sure he will remain close to you.
