  1. Yup, the fight mode is where you need to stay awhile. Hugs to everyone in this thread. Believe me, I know exactly how this feels. (5 osteo diagnoses this year for us, as most everyone knows.) If I can help anyone in any way, please get in touch. I have done the amp route and the pain management route. any help appreciated -- pain management (rivie's is on her rib - so no surgery) -- any tips/advise/help appreciated. any experience with it on the rib cage? thanks in advance!
  2. good boy flash - glad you found something for he will eat!!!
  3. unfortunately we are members of this club - rivie's biopsy (preformed 7/7) results came back wednesday 7/14. i feel a connection with flash and charlie. please keep in touch - teri
  4. just checking for am update - i feel such a connection for charlie/flash/rivie -- our prayers are with you -- teri
  5. shannon - so glad he is home -- when rivie had her biopsy i bought an arsenal at the grocery trying to find something she would eat -- so far the magic food is chicken breasts that i boil in ck boullion then process a bit in the food processor -- she is snarfing this down!!! she would take her meds in braunschweiger (with the sausage at the grocery) after the first day -- now she is liking wennie since she figured me out maybe that will help. i feel such a connection to you with our timing - so glad flash is doing well!!! hugs - teri
  6. I am so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you. The rib was were Beacher's tumor was. It grew fast so be prepared. Hawk's was in his shoulder and I believe it was easier and less painful on the rib. We got a good 7 months with Beach. i would be so very interested in any info/help you can provide me!! i can find almost nothing on the web re:osteo on the ribcage. and yes, i am already astonished at the rate of growth - when i found the lump on june 19 (2 days after raibies vacine, vet checkup that was great, and awesome bloodwork -- see my earlier thread on possible rabies shot reaction!) the lump was "pecan to walnut" sized. since vet (who is wonderful) had just seen 2 days prior he suggested watching it a week. then the biopsy and a weeks wait for the results -- and now the tumor is between golf & tennis ball sized. i would be thrilled for anything you can share with me about beachers osteo --thanks so much. thank you for all of your loving posts - i feel the comfort of others for sure.
  7. yes, she had a biopsy - and yes it is osteosarcoma and yes the tumor is located on the rib -- and yes i have already ordered the artemisinin (but the biopsy results were just back on wednesday, so it has not even had time to arrive yet) - we will start it as soon as it is delivered.
  8. kyle - you and charlie are in our prayers today -- i am sorry that we have in common the osteo diagnosis this week - just sucks. i am praying for charlie. rivie's tumor is on her ribcage - so there will be no surgery - my heart hurts and my stomach is in a knot
  9. our hugs and best wishes to flash on recovery. i hate that we have this new diagnosis in common with each other - we are so glad that flash has his surgery behind him and ready to put up his dukes and fight.
  10. wednesday we got rivie's biopsy results back - it's osteo. her tumor is on her rib, firmly attached. we drove to oklahoma city yesterday and saw a wonderful vet surgeon for consult, but surgery is not an option this time. we will continue to do what we have always done -- just love her. all advise, thoughts, prayers appreciated - my heart hurts.
  11. thank you for all of your great advise - please see update on original post and all prayers appreciated! thanks - teri
  12. rivie had her rabies vaccine on 6/17 (thursday) - and the vet gave her a good look over then because of her age (dob 11/6/98). on saturday a.m. the 18th i noticed a walnut to lemon sized knot on her side about 2" back from her "armpit" and down towards her tummy. of course i phoned the vet right away, but thought it was probably a reaction to the vaccine, as we would have seen this knot, and i think he would have felt it in the exam of her. he confirmed that it was his belief it was a reaction and to watch it and if it wasn't down in size in a week to phone him back. well - 6/25 i thought it was still about the same size - maybe a little smaller, but not much....i phoned to ask if i could just run her by to ease my mind - the only part that troubled me was the location - more towards her tummy and on a rib - i thought this a very strange location for them to give the rabies shot (if indeed it was at the injection site). i was, i admit, miffed because they told me he was REALLY busy and it was not convenient, (come on -- we have been GREAT clients for a really long time) but went to check with him when i insisted. they came back on the phone and told me it would take at least a month to go down and were just pretty short with me (ERRRR). i thought i should google "rabies shot reactions" to make sure this was OK info and now am a bit scared -- anybody else have any experience/info/advice for me??? thanks in advance!!! teri UPDATE 7/2 -- thank you so much for all your great input! yesterday i was still just a bit uneasy with the situation. i went to the vets office and just asked to speak with the tech - i explained the whole story and showed him on a dog where the lump was.....he said go get her and let the dr take a look right away. dr was so nice and appologetic - said it was not at all what he was thinking and took an x-ray....she will have biopsy on wednesday - PRAYERS APPRECIATED!!! thanks in advance - teri

  17. no - they said it wasn't panus. said he had an auto-immune disease causing him to not process food well - thus causing the calcium and cholesterol spots on the eye - they did a thyroid test at the opthomologists office and said they would be in contact with my vet - we go back to specialist in a month - got tacrolmus ointment for his eyes twice a day.
  18. i'm not sure -- as much as it cost, i would sure think that was possible i would guess they would send something in writing to my vet -- and i'm sure i could get that from them.

  21. when we got win a couple of years ago, he had some pin sized spots on his eye - since he had a broken leg at the track, the vet thought they were probably related to track dirt. recently the spots on the left eye got much bigger - our vet ran lab work to check calcium level & other assorted tests and made us an appt with the doggie opthomologist. our appt was yesterday - they ran thyroid tests there and said he 1. had old scar damage from some sort of parasite and 2. current spots were both cholesterol and calcium spots and were probably due to an auto-immune disease of some sort - we are to check on the thryoid test results - see opthomologist again in a month and they will confer with our regular vet -- any advise/help/experience with this sort of thing??? thanks in advance for any help!
  22. you know we're all roo--ting for you lacey laine!!!
