socalgreys
Anyone have experience with this being used in anesthesia...sighthound or other???
Batmom
No experience . It's a blood plasma replacement so it would be used when the pet loses a lot of blood, and in some other circumstances when the pet's blood pressure drops too low during anaesthesia. Thanks...was told by vet tech that it was used for drop in blood pressure during surgery. Just seems extreme to me, if adequate hydration is used during procedure. Am I off base on this? tbhounds
Pretty extreme-there are other first step measures to increase bps during anesthesia (increase your iv fluids, decrease the anesthetic gas....) krissy
I've never had a blood pressure issue that couldn't be resolved by 1) turning down the anesthetic gas 2) increasing the iv fluids 3) giving dopamine or dobutamine. I've never had to give a colloid like hetastarch for a blood pressure issue during surgery.
