Is Ammonia Safe To Use In A House With Greyhounds

Paranoid mom, but the owner of the cleaning company came to do the estimate, and ammonia was her top suggestion for getting the stove top cleaned the first time (let's just say during the three months I've been ill, DH hasn't exactly been doing it) and a couple of other greasy areas.

 

I've never used it, it wasn't something my mom used, would this be safe to use around greyhounds--they wouldn't be in the room, and I'll be home, so if I think the situation is unsafe, I can leave with them.

Unless you have a hound with respiratory problems there's no problem with it at all. Continuous exposure to ammonia is harmful but not occasional, short-term exposure.

The reason pet owners often avoid cleaning with ammonia is that dried urine has an ammonia smell, so if owners clean carpet or flooring with ammonia, they've essentially posted a "Pee here" sign for their pets. Cleaning items out of reach of pets should avoid that problem.

Ask if they can use vinegar - that's what I use in my house because my Lucy is a seizure dog. Only problem - your house will smell like salad dressing.

Thank you, this would be a one time use, in a room they won't be in, just to get the stove and range hood clean so it sounds like we're safe, just wanted to double check. Of course, Leo and Henry are my top priority, forget about my stuff.
