I've been reading on the subject and I'm lost.. web sites say different things! :dunno

is HCL really a better choice then the sulfate for glucosamine (with chondroitine) suplement for my greys?

this is from the greyhound gang's description. i ended up purchasing glucoasamine hcl from another vendor,http://www.amazon.com/NuSci-Glucosamine-Powder-Joint-Health/dp/B00KDU2TFQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1443045548&sr=8-5&keywords=glucosamine+hcl+powder. i went directly to the vendors site.

"Glucosamine HCL is the foundation of natural care for joint issues. It replenishes the synovial fluids which surround the joints, and can also help repair cartilage. It is a pure powder supplement. It can work alone, but works best when other joint supplements are combined with it.

- MSM - helps reduce inflammation
- Chondroitin - synergistically can help glucosamine with repair of cartilage and replenishment of synovial fluids
- Vitamin C (in Calcium Ascorbate form for easier absorption) - fights free radicals which cause damage

I've had hundreds of greyhounds pass through Greyhound Gang's doors, and have personally seen significant improvement in their mobility and joy in life. Read the unsolicited testimonials I've received throughout the years. They are with each product, or gathered in one place at Testimonials.

1/2 tsp daily equals 1600 - 2000 mgs, which is the daily dose for dog 50 lbs and over. There are no fillers or additions, this is pure glucosamine HCL.

i am currently trying a combo of EFAC http://www.amazon.com/EFAC-Joint-Health-Advance-Formula/dp/B004ZMTRQW

(EFAC, which is short for Esterified Fatty Acid Complex, is comprised of natural fatty acids, or oils, derived from beef tallow, that have a potent lubricating action on cells. By lubricating cell membranes throughout the body, EFAC restores fluids that cushion bones and joints to promote flexibility and mobility. EFAC should not be confused with EFA's, which are essential fatty acids found in fish oil or flaxseed oil; they are very different.)

and the glucosamine hcl. my chiropractor started using the EFAC on her 13 year old and she responded well. felix does better w/ a supplement, tried the get up and go combo- $$$ and i didn't see that much of a difference. the orthopedic specialist who annie saw suggested glucoasmine and msm. the msm is an excellent anti-inflammatory. i also purchased that in bulk.

Glucosamine comes in two forms; Hydrochloride and Sulfate. Glucosamine hydrochloride (HCL) is more concentrated than the sulfate form and contains substantially less sodium per effective dose than the sulfate form. The effective dose of Glucosamine HCL contains 98% Glucosamine, whereas Glucosamine Sulfate only contains 75% Glucosamine. Another thing to consider is Glucosamine Sulfate is stabilized with sodium chloride, i.e. salt. It contains 30% more salt then the hydrochloride. Older pets like humans don’t need more salt in there diet. Alright so Glucosamine HCL it is. Do I get the one made from shellfish or the vegetable (corn) based one. I think the jury is still out on this one, so pick what ever is price appropriate. Chondroitin is made from Bovine Trachea or Shark cartilage. Bovine seems to be more environmentally sustainable but shark cartilage works just as well. If you are buying human supplements here are some general guide lines for dosages.
