Guest Branna
Hi, I wonder if anyone might offer some suggestions. My houndie has rather gnarly toes and probably has arthritis in them. That said, he loves his walks but lately his side toenails have been digging into the pads on both feet causing them to bleed. It doesn't seem to bother him, and I always clean them up afterwards, but I can see how this might cause a problem for him. The nails are as short as I can get them without hitting the quick. I can't see how I could put anything there (like a toe spacer (if he were a ballerina )) and still be able to walk, so if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.Thanks all very much! Guest LunaTheGreyt
What about those squishy nail covers they make? http://www.softpaws.net
Guest Branna
I've never seen these before Grey Pup. Thanks I will investigate further!
Neighsayer
can you file down the area that hits the other toes? Mickey has SLO. He lost all his nails, and several have come back like what you describe. They stab the sides of his toes, or the edges of his pads. I file them down with an emory board when I see it. Guest Branna
I could try that too... Have you ever used a dremel? I wonder if that might help. Thanks for your suggestion!
charbess
Can these be removed (by choice?)
OwnedBySummer
Have often are you trimming them? If you dremel them closely every couple of days, the quick "should" recede more. Quote Lisa B.
