Guest heathertrent
I ordered premade, ground raw dog food, some with ground bone, that will be frozen when I pick it up Friday. I ordered beef, turkey, chicken, quail, duck, and two that are a mix of chicken and beef with organs. The man who owns the company said I can't thaw it and then refreeze it. I have read on several forums that others refreeze their dog food with no problem. Will it make him sick if I thaw it out and refreeze it? I would like to thaw it and divide it into bags so that it is measured already for each feeding. Thank you! Michelle
RedHead
I have refrozen many times. If you thaw it just enough to separate and then refreeze, it will likely still be partially frozen/very cold still anyways.
Guest heathertrent
Thank you, I ordered 10 cases 30 pounds each. I plan to spend my Saturday separating & weighing.
Trudy
You can refreeze food for human consumption with no issue (though texture might be a little off), but no ill health effects. So I see no reason you can't with the dog version unless it has been thawed and refrozen 238924 times
Remolacha
thawing and refreezing is fine, just don't let it sir around once it is thawed. start repacking and refreezing as soon as you can pry it apart You are in for a long Saturday, but then you will be fixed up for quite awhile! Guest heathertrent
Thank you everyone. Each case is packaged in 15 rolls, 2 pounds each. My plan is to go through all of it Saturday and repackage it in ziplock bags. I am giving him 12 ounces each meal so that will be 400 bags! It will be worth it when I am done, though. I am going to give him one of these mixes in the mornings and a chicken leg quarter or something similar in the evenings.
Remolacha
Since they are already in 2lb rolls that is only a couple of days worth of food, you don't have to repackage. It should keep in the frig just fine for 2-3 days. I thought you were getting it in big 30lb chunks I don't repackage anything smaller than 5 lbs. OwnedBySummer
I can't imagine that refreezing will bother them at all. They happily eat stuff with freezer burns or old dead things from the yard... Quote Lisa B. Guest heathertrent
I am getting 7 different kinds so I am only going to be feeding each kind once a week since I will be giving him something fresh with bones in the evening. I think it will be easier to just spend one day sorting it and have it labeled. Thank you. Michelle
Guest FreeholdHound
Just spent my afternoon separating & refreezing. Aaahhh a day of raw stinky tripe, grinds, and sardines
