Guest runner615
Hi all, If someone can post which Benadryl to use to help stop itching...it's for my Mom's dog. And, is it an over the counter purchase? Thanks in advance! Veronica Edited October 15, 2012 by runner615
krissn333
Yep! OTC Benedryl (or the generic) in the pill form is fine. rschultz
You may want to check with others but I think it is only a half of pill every 12 hours or maybe that depends on the size of the dog. Quote Lexie is gone but not forgotten.💜
KF_in_Georgia
It's 1 mg per pound of dog, every 8 hours. If your mom's dog weighs less than 25 pounds (the mini-tabs), look for the liquid/children's formula but be sure you get one with no fever reducer or pain relievers. You want plain ol' diphenhydramine, with no extras. And if it's the children's formula and is flavored, be absolutely certain it's not sweetened with xylitol (it would probably be listed under inactive ingredients). Xylitol often is fatal for dogs. Benadryl regular. Do NOT buy "allergy/sinus" with the decongestant!! And it's only going to work if the dog's itching is from an allergic reaction.
