Guest Yankeegreyhound
I'm going to try to explain this the best I can but, Sara was licking her foot and I went to check it out. I noticed that her toe nail is separating from the dew claw!!! Is that possible? What should I do? Her nails aren't very long and I noticed this starting to happen on another nail. Could this be from a deficiancy of some sort?? Sara had her rear leg amputated almost 6 months ago and both of these nails are on her front paws. Could it be because she's just harder on her front feet these days??? Thanks for your help.

joejoesmom
Since it is happening on more than one nail, I agree, it might be SLO. Was her leg amputated due to cancer? If so, be sure to check with the oncologist before beginning any treatments for SLO. There is a Yahoo group for dogs with SLO. Here is one website with more info on the disease: http://www.grassmere-animal-hospital.com/SLO.htm Jane

Yes, her leg was amputated due to cancer but not ostea. She had a liposarcoma. It was soley in her back leg and they got clean margins and we haven't found any other tumors since the amputation. Poor Sara. She just can't catch a break. Thank you!

EllenEveBaz
You're right -- it doesn't seem fair at all. But I'll add my voice to the "it's manageable" group. My Scout came to us at age 9 with a long history of misdiagnosed SLO, and with short-term medication and long-term supplements, we got it under control until it was barely even a nuisance. Smooches to your girl.
