macoduck Posted August 15, 2011 Share Posted August 15, 2011 I have to do a transport Monday midday of 2 italian greyhounds. My guess is their weight is 12-15 lbs. Age 3-4 years old. If they have fleas I want to give them a Capstar. I have one dose for small/2-25 lbs dogs and one dose for large/25+lbs dogs on hand. Do I split the smaller dose between the 2 dogs or split the larger dose? For my guys (both about 16 lbs) it seems that about half of what I'd give the greyhounds is usually the recommended dose. Could give the vet a ring in he morning just to be sure, though. The tech suggested not splitting the pill because with those the dose is not evenly distributed throughout the pill. I couldn't buy another pill anyway because they no longer sell Capstar, only Comfortis. Those iggies were sooooo cute! For future reference, most PetSmart stores (the stores, not the Banfield vets) now carry Capstar among their flea products. They usually have the small-size pills, too, that are safe for puppies.
