Keeps Throwing Up

Hi folks,

Daisy has had a pretty rough morning and has thrown up three times. We think it was because of something she ate on her morning walk. She has been really sneaky about snatching gross stuff to eat and my husband said she ate a bit of something that looked like a pizza crust. Nothing else was different and she eats in the morning and in the afternoon, so she only had a cup and a half of food.

I don't think she could possibly have anything left in her at this point, but she seems really uncomfortable. Is there something we should give her to make her feel better?

Thanks!

I would have to agree, vet as soon as possible (e-vet). It could be many things but why take the chance. It could be something she ate, could be bloat (if she recently ate), etc. all serious.

Thanks guys! I ended up taking her to the vet shortly after I posted this. At first the vet thought it was nothing and sent us away. But then Daisy had diarrhea on their lawn and I brought some of it to them in a baggy. They ran tests and found hookworm eggs! So she got some medicine for that. Good thing I brought her in!

Thanks for the responses.

Poor Daisy! I hope she is feeling better now. How much worm medicine did you get? If she has hooks you will need to worm several times, not just once - they are horrible to get rid of.

What Stripeyfan said! I'll just add that if hookworms aren't usually a problem in Vermont, as they didn't used to be in our state, your vet may not know a lot about treating them aggressively. Let us know if you need help getting educated about treatment so you can be sure it's being done right. (Or just use "hookworm" as a search term in H&M and learn plenty.) Hooks can do a ton of damage to the intestines and set him up for infection and IBD, as Stripeyfan and I and others have experienced, to our sorry. The good news is that they found them, though!

I am glad you found what it is and it's treatable. I hope she's on the road to recovery soon!
