Guest OffLead
[Edited to add, it sounds like Beth and Jimmy have quite similar personalities -- she also was issue-free, and lives to snuggle every human being she can get to and charms everyone (and also plays a bit rough and is vocal doing it!).] The only issues are things I consider to be quite minor and easy to deal with. Jimmy does have sleep aggression, but that's easy enough. He's just not allowed on the bed with me (I let him up once, he woke 20 minutes in snarling and lunging at me, I made him get off, and that's that), and the girls give him plenty of space when he's sleeping and don't bother him. We're having a few issues with him allowing me to do grooming things like his nails. I just ask a friend to come by and help hold and distract him while I take care of it. I have to do the same with Lene anyway, because that's one of the areas where she still challenges me on a regular basis. *G* We're also still having some digestive issues, but he's put back on the weight he lost initially, and then some I believe (all muscle), and he's doing fine in spite not having solid stools yet. But compared to what I've had to deal with in other rescue dogs, this is all extremely blow-off-able. He's happy, he plays, and so far he hasn't hurt himself during any of the insane play he partakes in, beyond a few scratches.
SIGreyLady
Welcome from NY. I'm so glad to hear Jimmy found a super forever home with a greyt new mom and IW sisters. I remember seeing his pics and thinking how beautiful he is (I love the roman noses). Looking forward to seeing more pics in the future. Beth has no sleep aggression and is good with the nails (I do them while she's sacked out). She does have a sensitive tummy though. Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream is what has worked best for her. Like Jimmy she is a happy, happy girl. There are quite a few half-sibs on the forum here! Batmom
Welcome! I had to laugh about your comment about Jimmy being a messy eater. My own roman-nosed boy is quite neat at his main meal, but I have learned to keep him away from rice, peas, and the like when he is helping prewash the dishes. These noses just cannot handle such things. Your family is beautiful! Guest OffLead
It's not too hard to imagine where they (or at least their parents) probably came from Looks like they have wonderful temperaments which are, luckily, a trademark of those lines (if that is where they, or their parents, originated from). Either way they are beautiful! I can understand being hooked for sure. I finally got the pics of the Bros. Borzoi posted. They didn't come out great (and a couple hundred action shots didn't come out at all) because we just didn't have enough light. Photos posted on Picasa Blog post on the visit. These noses just cannot handle such things. Your family is beautiful! Oh, no kidding there! Jimmy does okay with his regular kibble meals, though I suspect that is mostly due to the fact that they have large 3-quart bowls, and he's intent on eating and doesn't move around too much. But when he was getting rice gruel, what a nightmare! For every bite he picked up with his mouth, half of it oozed back out the sides of his mouth. The stuff was everywhere, on the walls, the floor, and all over his face. It took him forever to finish a meal, and I think he got fidgety and frustrated with not getting what he picked up swallowed. This is actually why he hasn't been getting tripe yet. I'm just not sure I'm up to having to clean it up from everywhere when he's done...LOL. Pepsi2004
Welcome! The first time I met my DH, about 32 years ago, our first conversation was about dogs and surprisingly, we both wanted an IW. However, we ended up with Borzoi for about 20 years. Then, we got a Greyhound rescue and now that is what we have. We adore all the large sight hounds!! We do love the Scottish Deerhounds too. Your dogs look great and I love the Roman nose!!
