BauersMom Posted January 5, 2010 Share Posted January 5, 2010 (edited) Ugh, what a week. Juliette went in for her spay yesterday. All was fine until she was coming out of anesthesia and she started vomiting. Vet released her last night and said to keep an eye on her. She vomited throughout the night. Called the e-vet and they said to watch for signs of dehydration, etc. This morning, she's still vomiting, and the original vet was called - they weren't too concerned. I asked the foster home to bring her into a second vet for another opinion, because this was just not right. Her temp is down to 98. Her eyes are dilated and she's groggy. Her gums are pale/white and she's still vomiting. They admitted her and we're now just waiting for the call back with any update. Any experiences? Thoughts? It could be a severe reaction to the anesthetic, and, at this point, what you are describing are symptoms of SHOCK. She could be bleeding internally, ... anything at this point. I am glad she is being admitted. They will most likely try warming her slowly with a warming blanket and warm IV fluids, do bloodwork, to see what her red blood count is, and go from there. This sounds horrible to me, pale gums, vomiting,low temp, sounds like she had a reaction to the anesthesia. Poor Juliette, she will be in my prayers, I hope she pulls through this, can she be seen by a specialist? She feels it was the telazol that was used for induction in the anesthesia protocol. Anyone have any experiences with tealzol? Burpdog Posted January 6, 2010 Share Posted January 6, 2010 This is in the Grey Adoption pkg by Bill Feeman DVM: Induction agents: Telazol, Propofol and Ketamine/Valium are all perfectly appropriate anesthetics for Greyhounds. I would recommend using whichever your veterinarian is most familiar with. just remember no thiobarbiturates (Thiopenthol). Most vets I use, use propofol. I would ask what other meds they used. Guest Energy11 Posted January 6, 2010 Share Posted January 6, 2010 My vet/former employer in Florida, used Valium and Ketamine. I like the Propofol, but a lot of vets don't use it. Like humans, a grey, or any animal can have a reaction to ANY type of anesthesia. I am sooo glad Juliette is better. Thank GOD it was caught in time! I agree that a reaction to anesthesia can always happen whether it be a human or animal. Hope her recovery is without any more complications, big hugs and kisses to the poor baby.
