Guest mcsheltie
The benefits of fish oil are numerous. One is decreasing inflammation. Processed dog food does not contain the correct ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6. Too much Omega 6 contributes to inflammation. So I would give this to Harley. Everyone here gets it, humans dogs & cats. As far as glucosamine, it does not work prophylactically. But since you can not know for sure what is going on in there, giving it will not hurt anything either. Inexpensive brands are not really worth the money as many are not bio-available. Syn-flex and Joint Complex are two brands I KNOW that work, because I tried them and had very good results. Guest Energy11
Neither could hurt. Mine have been on both since they were four. Good Luck and congrats on the new family member! :-))
Guest PhillyPups
All mine get fish oil 2 times a day. I usually do not start on glucosamine, unless signs of arthritis starting before that age, till double digits (many of mine arrive at that age ) as my vet suggested not to start until needed so it works then. Just my experience. How is his toe now? I know from experience that a previosly injured bone can be the prime target for first places for arthritis to hit. BUT CONGRATS ON HARLEY Edited October 11, 2009 by PhillyPups
RobinM
I have my dogs on it and have since retirement, however this was the email I got from her when I asked if it were OK for Beau (IBD) to be on it She is the Associate Professor of Nutrition,Dept of Clinical Studies-Philadelphia,School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Does Beau have orthopedic issues? Glucosamine has no know preventative effects and only minimal evidence for beneficial effects for treating arthritis in dogs. Also there are major issues about source and processing re whether the patient absorbs it from the gut at all Edited October 11, 2009 by RobinM Quote ROBIN ~ Mom to: Beau Think It Aint, Chloe JC Allthewayhome, Teddy ICU Drunk Sailor, Elsie N Fracine , Ollie RG's Travertine, Ponch A's Jupiter~ Yoshi, Zoobie & Belle, the kitties. Everytime I have said this I get blasted. I believe it to be true as does my own vet I still use it. I was inquiring to this doctor about Beau because of the IBD, I didn't know if I should or shouldn't. She said NO so we don't. My vets don't think there is anything wrong with using it (this comment was from the specialist at UPENN) and I do for Teddy, Chloe and Elsie.
