mom2four
When we had such hot weather 2 weeks ago, all the dogs were off their food a bit. The others bounced back as soon as the weather became cooler, but Diego continued to have some problems. Sometimes he'd eat, others he would not. Last week Tuesday we went to the vet for his annual exam, we mentioned the eating problems and the vet put him on some medication. Things were better on Wed and Thurs, but on Friday Diego didn't eat at all- except grass! Saturday morning I offered him some boiled hamburger and rice, but he turned his head away. Later on Saturday morning he had a horrible looking diarrhea, and he was visibly under the weather so we took him to the 24 hour animal hospital. He was a bit dehydrated so they kept him there on IV for 24 hours, and they started him on some Flagyl. He came home yesterday, but they told us that if things do not improve we need to bring him back for an ultrasound. He is eating a bit of canned Gastro food. His poop last night was still diarrhea, but he is feeling better. We'll increase his food and keep an eye on his stool. Tin, Michael and Diego P.S. Everyone at the ER hospital LOVED Diego! They all commented on what a big sweetheart he is. Quote Tin and Michael and Lucas, Picasso, Hero, Oasis, Galina, Neizan, Enzo, Salvo and Noor the Galgos. Guest Flysmom
Did the vet think it was a tummy virus or the heat? I hope Diego starts to feel better and that he eats for you!!!
mom2four
Did the vet think it was a tummy virus or the heat? I hope Diego starts to feel better and that he eats for you!!! Until we get the stool sample results back (today hopefully) we will not know for sure. The vet did tell us that there is a lot of Parvo here right now, so they checked him for that too. We do not go to off leash parks, so that was unlikely. He was negative. Quote Tin and Michael and Lucas, Picasso, Hero, Oasis, Galina, Neizan, Enzo, Salvo and Noor the Galgos. mom2four
Thanks everyone. Diego continues to improve, although he's not quite 100% yet. It MAY just be a stomach bug, as out 12.5 year old Lab, Heidi, had some diarrhea also, late yesterday. We still have not heard back from the vet about the stool sample results. But as Jamey is going for his 3rd round of chemo this morning, Michael will ask them about Diego's results when he brings Jamey.
