I wished I believed in the afterlife and I wish I believed in the rainbow bridge where she was whole again. But I don't. I believe when it's over, it's over. I don't know about heaven or a rainbow bridge, but I do know that those we live on in the memories of those we leave behind...our only sure immortality. The day will come when you can think of Polly and Lewis with smiles for the memories, maybe followed by tears, but little by little, the smiles will win out. Then you'll feel better. Jack was such a quiet boy I thought but then I realized that he sighed and nested and panted and groaned and moaned all the time. The other two just lie down and sleep.
