Reaction To Vectra Flea Control

So much for happy ending...but she's getting there.

 

Last night little M had explosive bloody diarrhea. My friend knew the smell was distinctly from a GI bleed. She finally took her to my vet where she was diagnosed as having toxicity from the Vectra.

Out of range lab values:

HIGH

WBC 23.37 (normal 5.50-16.90)

NEU 19.05 (normal 2.00-12.00)

BASO .14 (normal .00-.10)

PLT 520 (normal 175-500)

 

LOW

TP 4.6 (normal 5.2-8.2)

ALB 1.9 (normal 2.3-4.0)

RBC 5.11 (normal 5.50-8.50)

HCT 35% (normal 37.0-55.0)

 

She was treated today with:

Normosol R drip, Naxcel inj, Cyanocobalamin inj, and given Lomotil to take at home.

 

She'll get labs done tomorrow to see how she's improving.

Continued prayers for little M. This is really a shame

The owner is pretty frazzled but hanging in there. Between the 3 vet clinics - Banfield, E-vet, and my vet - her bill is over $1700. I don't think I cheered her up when I said don't try to figure out how much a 9 lb dog has cost you per pound.....

OMG, that's outrageous, I'de be frazzled too, especially with some of the "care" little M received

Finally some progress after 10 days. Yesterday afternoon the vet gave her some electrolytes and a syringe to squirt the solution into little M's mouth every few hours. Happily, little M is starting to act like her old self. She hasn't eaten much but she is drinking and is showing like she's on the road to recovery. Total cost so far $2300.
