stlgrey
I am not sure how to post an update in the orginal post, so my updates are always at the end. Sierra is going to have an IV treatment tomorrow. I am very nervous for her. I feel like a parent who would be making the medical decision for their child, "Is the the right choice not not?". I know that she needs another option since the intraconazole isn't doing its best right now. With the addition of two treatments it can help her and this is what she needs right now. She is doing well on eating and the diarrhea is better. I went over the whole 1,000 questions with her vet to make sure that were doing the right thing. I will be thinking nothing but good thoughts all day tomorrow. I bought her a St. Francis medal for her collar today. I am also going to bring a blanket from home for her stay tomorrow. I will post when I know how things are going tomorrow.

stlgrey
Sierra's treatment went well. They said they checked her BUN and everything was fine before, during and after the treatment. They said she ate on her own and she will be ready for me to pick her up on the way home from work today. We will do another treatment on Thursday. They will check the BUN again and make sure her kidneys aren't being effected from the medication before they do another treatment. I will be home with her all evening making sure she rests and has someone there for her.

stlgrey
Sierra has received treatment #2 today. I took off work today because I was pretty tired and needed a mental health day. I slept in with Sierra and we went over to the vet at 8:30 am. Her vet was off today but came in to see how she was doing. Her vet, Dr. G. is awesome. She is very compassionate about animals. She feels that with the advise of a specialist that Sierra should have 2 more treatments. They haven't gotten to the prescription dose as of yet and think that 4 treatments would really benefit her. I hope this is all she requires of this. We are waiting on her itraconazole levels, the lab lost them last week. So that is really the key. I am praying that the levels are therapeutic enough and I don't have to switch her meds to the brand name ($$$$$$). She gained 2 lbs. since last week!! This is amazing since she lost 4 in a week due to heavy diarrhea. She is constantly hungry which is very good. She has go to in on Saturday for treatment #3. stlgrey
Sierra's itraconazole levels are not at the therapeutic level we have hoped for. This could be from the histo being so populated in her GI system or possibly that the itraconazole needs to be switched to Sporonex instead. Either way I am staying very optomistic. I know my dog and she has turned the corner for the better over the past few weeks. I have her eating again with a strong appetite, chasing squirrels in the yard (not to crazy) but she is more active than weeks agao. She is gaining weight back and her coat is improving also (it has been dry, dull and lots of shedding). She goes in today, Saturday for treatment #3. I am sure it will go well. I think they would like to do 4 treatments all together. So far she has been doing fine through them. stlgrey
Treatment #3 went well also. I had to take her in on Saturday in the morning before work. The vets office had an emergency and didn't get her medicine started until after 2:00 pm. They asked me to come pick her up around 8:00 pm. This worked out better because I was at a surprise retirement party for my aunt and Iwas going to have to leave, pick up sweet Sierra and leave early. This way she was able to be cared for by her vet and had time to get fluids after the treatment. The vets office is open until 2:00 am. and reopens around 6:30 am. That is one reason I go there. Her vet said she did well and things are continuing to improve. She has gained 2-3 lbs back and continues to have a healthy appetite. She is going to get the last IV treatment on Monday. I am sure she is sick of me taking her there and leaving her there for 8 hours. The staff is really good to her and everyone is cheering her on for a full recovery there.
