Don't know. No.

Gidge has been fighting them for about 2 years now. We take her once a month to have them hulled. She went from having them on two feet to all four. Amazingly enough, this past month we went 6 weeks instead of 4 and she actually seems to be getting better.

No one knows the definite cause and I don't know of any way to prevent them. Regarding causes - I've read everything from a virus to the lack of padding in their paws and the resulting pressure from their toe bones.
