Thank you all for keeping Spencer in your thoughts and prayers.

Update #1

I picked up Spencer at e-vet at 8am and that vet was recommending he go to an internal specialist. He still has bloody diarreah. I took him right over to my vet and they want to run some more tests and get him on iv fluids because he's still dehydrated. Poor baby was so happy to see me and then looked at me like I was a traitor when I left him at the vet. So it's a waiting game right now. They will call me with their recommendation. If it's the specialist then it's one in another town about an hour away one way but they are apparently the best specialists in the area. Spencer was tested for giardia (an intestinal parasite), parvo and lymphoma and those were negative. Thank God for small miracles!

I hate this! I'm very sad and unhappy, tired and stressed. I'm definitely not a happy camper! I'll post again when I hear what the treatment recommendation will be - it will be late afternoon I suspect.

They probably told you this, but giardia can test negative, and still be present. It's hard to "catch", since it's only visible when it's shedding. Most adult dogs aren't much affected by it, unless they're otherwise unhealthy, though, so even if it's there, it may not be his only problem.

You're in our thoughts!!

Guest Vinnie

just saw this post and wanted to add our prayers and healing thoughts to the other chants for Spencer. Hope you get some good news soon - it's the waiting that is the worst, isn't it? So sorry, hope he's back home soon.

Cody had a very sensitive stomach & occasionally vomited & had bloody diarrhea... Once it was because I fed her a greenie (very high in FAT apparently) and that set her off, once was when we found out she was allergic to RICE!!

Hope they find what's making him sick - hang in there!!

Again thank you all so much for your prayers and thoughts! It really means a lot to me and Spencer!

Update #2

11:50am - Vet just called - no vomiting or diarreah since Spencer was brought in at 8am this morning. He's thinking it's colitis - inflamation of the colon but wants to run another blood test to check for pancreatitus. He will call back later with results and recommendations. I'm thinking that I won't have to take Spencer to specialist as he's stablizing and I'm hoping I can take him home tonight. I think he's going to need to go on a special diet since this has happened before with him.

Our Angel LaceyLaine had severe pancreatitis and was in critical care several times. The diet that they will give you...If it is pancreatitis....WILL help! She was diagnosed by her lab work...x-rays...and abdominal ultrasound.

Sending more prayers and gentle hugs. :grouphug

Just now seeing this, but I wanted to add that we'll be thinking about Spencer. How very scary for all of you. I hope he'll be able to come home later today. Give him a gentle hug and kiss!
