In some ways, I can see where your DH is coming from (not that I agree) - the finality of that decision can be overwhelming. In this case, you may have to revisit her prognosis, and I agree with Aerosmom that a vet will be able to work with you as you sift through the facts. It's extremely difficult to isolate the reality of her condition from yours and your husbands feelings so an expert can help immensely.

Can't improve on what Aerosmom said.

Just adding some hugs for all of you, and prayers.

I will keep your precious Bailey in my thoughts and prayers. Such a heart wrenching decision to make. I've been there and done it and it's not easy at all, yet you don't want them suffering. A never ending circle. Tiger, Bueller and Domino are sending Bailey some loving doggie kisses.

She's the same. She hit her head in the night. She stood on her bed, shook, and fell into a nightstand. DH is still looking for a solution. He sent me a heart breaking email, saying if he gave in and admitted that this is it, he'd start crying and never stop. He put her back on prednisone.

I'm afraid to go home. I get there first, several hours before he does. I hope she's not hurt, I hope she's passed quietly, and I'm afraid to find out.

He said "I am on the verge of losing, one of the two great loves of my life, and I can't even begin to bear the thought of it. I wish for our sake I was better at all of this. That I had answers, or that I could accept that maybe there are no answers and just deal with that. But it's Bailey."

Be strong for Bailey. :grouphug I know how hard it is but she doesn't know why you are upset. She needs your love and strength right now.

how are you and Bailey doing today? I was sitting here, thinking about the poor baby and was wondering how you were doing also.

I'm so sorry you guys are going through all this.

One thing - if she's still with you and you and your DH are still trying to figure it all out - can she be crated? If so, it will at least ensure that she's not getting stuck on or under things while you're not home.

I hope you guys are all doing Ok and are able to come to some sort of resolution. It's painful all around :grouphug :grouphug :grouphug

I see you're in NOVA - is Dina your neurologist? Or Dr. Bush?

Wow. For what it's worth, there's a very good neurologist in Leesburg at the Life Center, Dr. Bush - he's got a greyhound himself and recently treated one of our fosters. I don't know if switching around will help your cause anymore, particularly since you've already been working with OSU, but maybe a set of fresh eyes... I don't know. I don't envy your position at all and I wish I had more suggestions for you.

Those were some really nasty storms we got yesterday.

Oh, and without going through the entire thread again, has lumbosacral stenosis been considered or depo-medrol shots attempted? The hind end weakness and bowel/bladder incontinence go hand-in-hand with LS. Of course, that has nothing to do with her anorexia, just shooting in the dark here...

yep. docs insist pains in her neck. they think it's GME. If not that, then there's nothing they can do. I think she's too sick for a spinal tap - and since she won't eat on her own, doc doesn't think that's something she can confidently say would get better if we started treating her with the immuno-suppressant drugs. Spinal tap requires general anesthesia, and they treat the GME similarly to cancer - no chemo - but use some cancer drugs. And the prognosis, if remission is achieved, is one year. Remissions might be short lived, and so you go down the path with the drugs again, hoping for another remission, but it's still one year at the most. If she would just eat!!

How many vets or specialists have you been to?

Did you get a second or 3rd opinion? If not, gather a copy of her medical records and take her to another vet for another opinion. I have found that with my old vet, when i had to take one of my babies into an Evet, that the evet found the problem when my old vet said that it was something else.

Don't bank on one opinion... make sure you have multiple. That will help you to believe you did everything you could.

Good luck and I'm sending hugs your way

regular vet, e-vet, and two neurologists. e-vet and neurologists all work at the same place.
