DaisyDoodle
In recent weeks there have been at least two recalls of fentanyl pain patches that look like a ravioli. These are the ones where there is a reservoir of drug in middle (like a little pillow). The ones where the drug is mixed with the adhesive (no pillow in the middle) have not been recalled. There were at least two different recalls, but both problems were related to defects that would allow too much drug to get out. These could either cause overdoses, or cause the drug to get on other people, pets or objects other than the patient. Please check with your vet before they place a fentanyl patch on your dog. sweetdogs
This is not the first time there have been recalls on these patches. My boy had one a few years ago & did so horribly with it that I removed it. A few days later, I found out about the recall. When I told my (former) vet, he said he was unaware of any recall. If your dog has a patch & is not tolerating it, check with your vet AND look for recalls. Quote Deirdre with Conor (Daring Pocobueno), Keeva (Kiowa Mimi Mona), & kittehs Gemma & robthomas. sweetdogs
Panting, pacing, whining, unable to settle down. Hopefully Ami's patch is OK & helps him with the pain. DaisyDoodle
Lethargy & difficulty breathing. If these occur remove patch and wash area with water. On't use soap or alcohol, they may increase the absorption of the drug.
