Bilateral Uveitis

Recommended Posts

My five year old grey/whippet mix has been struggling with eye problems since December (red, swollen, squinting). She has been on various meds with no real improvement. Went to the eye specialist yesterday who diagnosed bilateral uveitis. Eye specialist reports this usually indicates a systemic problem,

Eye specialist ordered blood work to include full tick panel, also wants to rule out liver problems, pancreatitis and toxoplasmosis. Recent full blood work up was within normal limits according to my vet. Any other suggestions or comments are appreciated. Thank you

Wow, I'd never heard of that before but I found this: linky

It certainly sounds smart that your specialist is doing a tick panel.

I hope she feels better soon.

Thanks for the link, it was one of the best articles I've read on uveitis. Off to the vet today for the blood work.

If nothing shows up on the current tests, may want to ask your vet about the fungal diseases (histoplasmosis, blastomycosis). One of them -- I forget which -- causes uveitis in a fair number of dogs.

Good luck!

Went to vet today for bloodwork. The test for Lyme, Erlichiosis and anaplasma came back negative. Sent out blood work for Toxoplasmosis titers, RMSF, and fungal serology. Hopefully we will have a clue with the bloodwork as to what is going on. Thanks for the support.
