Guest RooMomma
I got up this morning to find Lexi bleeding from her vaginal area. I called the e-vet office, they said she needed to be seen. After a couple hours of stressful waiting and biting my nails, it turns out that, since she was spayed right at the end of being in season, and that her uterus is stretched out from having puppies, now that all the swelling is going down and things are "tightening up" that she was actually pushing out the rest of the blood from being in season. She was spayed on Feb. 4th, I brought her home Feb. 8th. I've never heard of such a thing, but I have NO experience in this area. Lexi had an ultrasound, a UA, bloodwork, and a manual exam. After things got "cleaned out" she hasn't been bleeding, and all her labs are normal except for a low white blood cell count. The e-vet figured that was probably normal for having had a spay and teeth extracted not long ago. Just thought it might be something to know for future reference. All I kept saying was, "It's only been a WEEK! I know I may not have a long time with her, but give me more than a WEEK!!" All is well at the end of the story, but I sure was scared this morning! Guest Vinnie
How very scary! I would never have thought that or connected the bleeding with the spaying. So glad it was something "simple" though so scary. Hugs to you both.
Guest RooMomma
Thank you, everyone, for your good wishes. Lexi is perfectly fine. She never did act like she wasn't feeling good. She had normal energy, good spirits, eating & drinking, peeing normally. No further issues or bleeding, and that is a greyt thing!

Guest VelvetEars
I've felt the same way ---- it's like the minute they're adopted, the warranty is up and they know it! Glad to know it's nothing serious and she'll be ok. But here's what I'm wondering ---- when she was spayed, wasn't her uterus taken out? Where was this blood collecting? Glad to know it's nothing serious and she'll be ok. But here's what I'm wondering ---- when she was spayed, wasn't her uterus taken out? Where was this blood collecting? LOL!!! Ain't that a fact!!!! Yes, you are correct, the uterus is taken out. This has been pointed out to me by several friends. I can only think I heard the vet wrong. (It is always SO good to have another person with you to hear what is REALLY said!) The blood must have collected in the vaginal canal, and after the vet cleaned that out, voila! No more bleeding since.
