I am a pet fist aid instructor. Definitely take the pet first aid class. There is a book you can get at most large chain book stores that is also sold by the Red Cross for $12. But nothing is better than hands on training. The class fee is $25 here in Mass.

They teach you the Heimlich maneuver, CPR, First Aid and Disaster Response...

There are some good online sources too but I couldn't post the links for some reason.

 

Google Dog CPR and you will find some PDF formatted handouts on Canine CPR. Of course hands on instruction is better but if you can't do that this might be helpful
